E: Unable to locate package ubuntu-desktop

I just bought a VPS from ServerMania and was trying to install Ubuntu GUI.

But on typing: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

I get the following error: E: Unable to locate package ubuntu-desktop

Earlier I got this error -> sudo: unable to resolve host localhost.localdomain

but it was resolved by giving a host name.

    Anyone here can help?

The most likely situation is that you need to update your sources for some reason, with

    sudo apt-get update

It's also possible that your sources aren't set up correctly. You can configure them in the update manager. They are located in the file /etc/apt/sources.list - if you continue to have problems paste the source of that file here.

After typing sudo apt-get update, I get the following:
    Err http://archive.ubuntu.com quantal Release.gpg
    Temporary failure resolving 'archive.ubuntu.com'
    Err http://archive.canonical.com quantal Release.gpg
    Temporary failure resolving 'archive.canonical.com'
    Err http://archive.ubuntu.com quantal-updates Release.gpg
    Temporary failure resolving 'archive.ubuntu.com'
    Err http://security.ubuntu.com quantal-security Release.gpg
    Temporary failure resolving 'security.ubuntu.com'

Never faced this when I was with RamNode. Is this an issue with the host or OS installed?

Below is the code in sources.list file:

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu quantal main restricted universe
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu quantal-updates main restricted universe
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu quantal-security main restricted universe multiverse
    deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu quantal partner

What do you get when you do:

    cat /etc/resolv.conf

The support team said they had to include nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf

Why should we do that? It was not needed for me when I installed it through RamNode VPS.

Ramnode VPS's already include valid nameserver entries in /etc/resolv.conf upon VPS creation. It seems the other provider, does not.
