Hardware Firewall and Web Application Firewalll

    Hi,

Can anyone explain what is the different between Hardware Firewall and Web Application Firewalll? Do i need a Hardware Firewall when i already using a cloud based Web Application Firewalll?

How to provide a really safe hosting environment? If i already got a strong password with two factor authorization, Latest Software update, hardening user permission tuned and VPN for admin, how can hacker still crack a hole and jump into my server?

    Please advice. Thanks

Firewall depends on level of threats
for issues like DDOS you will need hardware firewall
for malware attack or brute force attack software firewall will do the work.
Hacking is possible only when you have some loophole on server.
    Else its difficult to crack

Then, how those hacker can even take down some security company website since they must some basic security that we done.

It is really confuse when come to security. We like living in a really unsecure environment which hard to prevent.

If security is of the utmost importance to your business, then i would suggest a hardware firewall which will provide more functionality, better security and allow you more options to protect your server.

The hackers (mostly) are not taking down the security company's website by accessing the physical server it is hosted.

The recent take downs by anonymous was through a DNS exploit happened at the nameservers/ Domain name registrars.

    Thanks for your suggestion.

Can you list down some function that Hardware Firewall has and Web Application firewall doesn't? Some specific sample usage for hardware firewall will be help as well.

    Thanks Again

Here is a good analogy i found in a Small business computing.com article:

Think of a hardware firewall as a club bouncer who checks everyone coming in against a list to make sure they have an invitation. The software firewall, on the other hand, is like a security guard who makes sure nobody snuck in -- and is doing something untoward while inside -- and checks to make sure people aren’t stealing stuff on the way out.
