    Skynet hosting debacle

    Since a php update, it would seem that SKYNET hosting has NO IDEA how to fix the permissions on my sites, even though i have sent them the pages which explain how to fix it.

    This issue has been going on for more than 24 hours, and at some stages through their "fixing" its taken all of my sites offline completely, so it gave a 403 error , but we are 24 hrs in and nothing has been fixed.

    I am a VIP Reseller, but i feel as if i would have got better treatment on my old host which was a quarter of the price.

    Ive had around about 4 different "techs" ranging from 1st level to 3rd level support, but nothing is getting fixed.

    Im currently searching for a new Host now, as im loosing money and time going in circles waiting for them to fix it.

    Looks like something has been changed in php handler.

    24 hours to wait is too much though.

    It only happened after the php update. Now in my CMS it says the Directory Permissions are all unwritable. This would indicate that its due to ownership of the files/folders. All of the directories that are unwritable are set to 775. and the fix according to my research is: the problem is the group/owner of the directory, I guess it's supposed to be set to apache for Joomla to write things itself. Fixed it with this through the command line:

    (Navigate to where your root website folder is located, this might be www, public_html, httpdocs etc.)
    cd /var/www/vhosts/website.com/

    (Change the ownership of the root website folder)
    chown apache:apache httpdocs

    As stated here: forum.codejoomla.com/open-source/joomla/chmod-755-directory-still-unwritable-solved--3350.html

    But i am not a server engineer, and THIS IS WHAT I PAY THEM TO DO!

    Any suggestions of a server in SG that do know what they are doing?

    I guess they have updated PHP version from 5.3 to 5.4/5.4
    They need to assign handler to PHP from:
    WHM Home >> >> Service Configuration >> Configure PHP and suEXEC

    Sometimes, after PHP update from easyapache, PHP handler is missing. So, I guess this may be the situation.

    And I am sure Skynet support will be working on this issue. Hope they fix it soon.

    PHP Version 5.3.27

    Thing is on the night prior to this happening, it worked fine, everything was good, i made a backup etc. I tried to re-image the site with my backup and it came up with an error saying "Directory /home/XXXXXX/public_html/ is not writeable or does not exists! Could not continue"

    I created it myself so it does exsist, yet i am unable to write to it. im pretty sure Ravi 9793 that this is not rocket science, and shouldn't take more than 24 hours to resolve for a level 3 technician. I don't hold much faith in this being fixed any time soon.

    Ok I don't think they do if you don't know about it, it's under Software/Services on cPanel. Hosts with CloudLinux have it.

    Im assuming that it should not recurse into subdirectories, or do i put an X to keep the permissions they already have?

    Try it on it's own first, then if it doesn't solve it, we'll need to check folders inside the public_html they should be 755.

    Ok Public_html is 750, all sub directories are 755, as they have been all along.
    Still when looking at my CMS, it says:

    Not according to the pages of documentation ive read across all the forums. 777 is a security risk.
    Plus on a different host, i have installed the same image of which all of those directories are 755 and the site is working fine.

    So that isnt the answer.

    Ok, so if it's not that sort of writeable then something on the server is broken. Hopefully their rep here keeps their word and fixes it for you. I've thought of everything you can do as a user.

    Here is a script we use on all our Dedicated servers and VPS servers.

    Ask SKYNETHOSTING support to create a sh script and stick it in /home
    Note: not sure why you would use 750 for the public_html

    name it something like fixdirs.sh

    Put this into the script.
    #!/bin/bash

    # Two ways to run:
    # Without arg - it will run against all home directories
    # With Arguments - it will run against all given dirs

    if [ $# = 0 ]; then
    DIRS=`ls /home`
    else
    DIRS=$@
    fi

    for DIR in $DIRS;
    do
    if [ -d $DIR ]; then
    echo -n Fixing: /home/$DIR - Files
    find /home/$DIR/public_html -type f -exec chmod 0644 {} \;
    echo -n " - Directories"
    find /home/$DIR/public_html -type d -exec chmod 0755 {} \;
    echo -n " - User/Group ownership"
    chown $DIR:$DIR /home/$DIR/public_html/* -R
    echo -n " - public_html ownership"
    chown :$DIR /home/$DIR/public_html
    chown $DIR /home/$DIR/*
    chown $DIR:$DIR /home/$DIR
    echo -n " - Home DIR ownership"
    chmod 711 /home/$DIR
    echo " - Don't allow others to read our configuration.php file"
    find /home/$DIR/public_html -name configuration.php -type f -exec chmod 0640 {} \;
    fi
    done

    Im a little scared to hear this report about SkyNet - We actually have a Shared Hosting VIP account for ultra low-budget customers. This is exactly why I prefer dedicated servers. But I also admit I spend way too much time on server work and not enough time on coding and making apps for customers.

    I would love to hear any other positive or negative reports on Skynet from "developers" who physically make their income from coding and use Skynethosting.net.

    My bad. I misread the timing on the original post. I can say for sure Skynet is responsive!
