I have been with WP Engine for almost 1 month now. It's been the best host I have been with by far, but also by far, the most expensive one.
I'm on the Starter account. I got a coupon for them so that my hosting bills are only $4/month for the first 3 months.
My site has never been this fast anymore. My site haven't been as quickly indexed as they do right now in a long time. And it's also ranking pretty well again. I admit though that I will have to work on the quality of the content as well.
But that's not what matters. It's the host that matters here now.
At first, I really thought that WP Engine was way overrated. They have a HUGE affiliate program going on, rewarding affiliates with up to $150 per new signup through their affiliate links.
But you can trust this review here. I don't have any affiliate links here. And I really have got to say that they are easily the best hosting provider that I have been with. I admit, that there have been only a handful... but it still says something.
The only thing that makes me a bit dizzy is the way they count visitors. The criteria that matters most if you host with them. The Starter Package allows for up to 25,000 visitors, overage charges are $1 per 1,000 visitors.
I'm currently exceeding my plan by almost over 15,000 visitors (a total of about 40,000 according to them) but in truth, I have only about 20,000 human visitors. the rest are usually bots, crawlers and other things that they 'count' as 'visitor'. That's the only thing that makes me want to run away with my money else where.
The host is just so good. I don't have anything to worry about anymore. It's secure. It's fast, and I can easily play around with it in the Staging area which creates an exact copy of my site as is for me to experiment on. Should I like what I have experimented on, I can make THAT the live site. Easy.
Backups are also very easy to do, you can add backup points yourself with just a few clicks and even get daily backups ensured.
I don't know if I can keep paying the bill of let's say around 40-60 dollars a month for 'just one site'. At the moment, I'm not earning a lot from the site, but just about enough to pay the bills once my coupon is over. But then again, with such an amount, I could get a decent VPs elsewhere and have all my sites hosted on a fast host.
I'd then sacrifice all the convenience, the awesome support and the worry free life that I'm leading now.
Site Speed 10/10 My WordPress site has never been faster.
Support 8.5/10 There have been instances that tickets too a bit longer than I would expect from them, and sometimes they couldn't fix what I was asking for and managed to do it on my own instead.
Price 8/10 They come with a premium price tag. But if you have any serious or important WordPress site, host it with them (unless you're knowledgable when it comes to VPS)
WP-Engine has very positive reviews even in forums such as this that don't allow affiliate links, for example the Wordpress forums. If you are getting that many visitors, then they be an ideal solution for you. For starters there are much cheaper options. Remember that although WP-Engine is shared hosting, they are still more expensive than a basic VPS service.
But it's very, very expensive. I mean seriously, even my ads profit didn't reach 99$ a month, yet.
Although, I would move my website to them, if —and only if— they gave me unlimited bandwidth, because it's crazy to pay 99$ a month, plus paying another few hundreds for more visitors.
They claim that your website won't go down, ever, because they move your website to another server or something with seconds after the current one go down.
Speaking of this, what are the WP Engine alternatives? I can not pay more than 99$ a month?
Yes, indeed, they are quite expensive. My (Adsense) earnings are also barely making the $99/month cut, but, like I said, I'm currently on the Starter plan that allows just 1 website. I'm looking forward to upgrade in the next 2-3 months depending if I can sustain the income. Adsense is not my only income source, but I have a few others, too.
And also, when I get to the $99/month plan, I could install up to 10 different websites, which would allow me a whole new perspective at things, since I could make 10 sites that would earn as well.
I have yet to experience downtime, site response time, however, has vastly improved like I have pointed out in my Eleven2 review here:
