Hosting local optimized images for ads vs remote images
I have a few images that load on all my pages that are banners from other places. They did a pretty crappy job of optimizing their images so it slows things down a bit.
I was thinking of hosting those images locally and optimizing them as well as making them progressive but then I thought maybe I'd lose more by adding more calls to my local files instead of having them effectively being a limited CDN for those files by keeping them on their servers.
Has anyone looked into what the cutoff point is regarding reduced local calls vs image optimization?
Definately host them locally!
This way you cut the delays and the risk of host being unreachable or image being corrupt.
You can host them on your server and optimize them as needed. This way you make sure they are effective and fast.
