Hostgator, Site 5, Arvixe, GreenGeeks, bigscoots & mddhosting. Opinions?

After deciding to leave Eleven 2 over the fact that my sites have been down 36 times in the last 30 days I have narrowed it down to these hosts. Looking to get some constructive opinions on each one. Trying to make a decision today. Thanks

They are all very different hosts, what made you decide each of them?

I Googled reseller hosting and three were mentioned in a previous post I made. Started with 36 companies that all had something I liked and met my price range. Then I went through and eliminated those with too many negative reviews. After that I decided which ones offered plans close enough to my current plan.

    100GB Storage Space

    or something close.

    CPanel/WHM
    Domain Reseller

I would prefer Unlimited Accounts but it's not a deal killer

Ok, you lost me. What's EIG and why do you hate it?

EIG owns a lot of brands: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enduran...national_Group

Some people have had a negative experience. Others are fine. Search for reviews on them on this forum and you'll see what the general consensus is.

    Thumbs down

EIG buys up hosts, moved them onto their hardware in their datacenter and use their support staff. Everything goes down hill after being purchased by EIG..

For example, I just recently bought out a web hosting business that was going to close that uses a reseller account from Hostgator.

The other day the the server that the reseller account was located on was having nothing but issues with MySQL service ('Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket etc').

I submitted a ticket with support and waited a few hours for MySQL down on the server and did not hear back. Tried calling and doing the on-line chat support feature, after 2 hours on hold on the phone.

I gave up trying on the phone, and waited about 3 hours for the on-line chat and gave up. almost 10 hours later the issue is still ongoing so I try on-line chat and finial got to talk to someone, who appeared to be too busy to even read the ticket details for the ticket number I provided. Almost a hour later the person finial states that yes there was a problem on the server as I reported according to the server logs and it would be looked into by a server tech.

Almost 24 hours later (issue still ongoing) I finial get a reply to the ticket from a "server tech" stating that they looked into my report and found nothing wrong with the server in its logs. The tech also said that the logs showed traffic visiting the site all day so the sites we're on-line.

Of course Apache was running so it was showing traffic, it was MySQL that was down, and when it would come back it would only stay on for a few minutes.. Could not even access the MySQL databases through cPanel's phpmyadmin and could not create MySQL databases either..

So I have two support people from EIG on the HostGator brand telling me two different things. First one says that there is an issue, and the second one says that there is no issues..

I used HostGator many years ago and the few times I had to contact support via ticket I would get a reply within 2 hours. Now its 24 hours to even get a reply to a down service ticket, unacceptable.

Guess it's a good thing I have plans in the works to move the host I bought out and merge it into my main company and move the clients on the HostGator reseller package onto my owns servers..

    HostGator gets two thumbs down!

If you need actual support, Id suggest looking at the other providers you listed and skip over HostGator.

Avoid HostGator. There are lots of bad reviews these days abut them.

Find a hosting that give SSH space, LightSpeed, R1soft Backup, CloudLinux

Your choice should also depend on server location like US / UK / Asia.

Avoid seller that offer master reseller hosting. They are generally oversold.

And finally your choice should also depend on your budget.

You can also add crocweb.com Ezpzhosting in your search list.
