    Unhappy Bahawolf/HingeWeb Review

I thought I would relay a review for Brian (Bahawolf/Hingeweb) here on WHT for all fellow members.

I employed Brian back in March 2013. All seemed well despite the time zone difference with me here in the UK and he over in the states. We kept regular contact via both Skype and Email and botched together a time frame of 3-4 weeks and a Pricing plan for the works to be carried out - A WordPress design + WHMCS integration + SEO, and paid a 50% deposit upfront.

All was moving along at a slow pace and alas the 3-4 deadline came and went and the site was maybe 40% complete (Design wise). I was not overly fussed about the slow speed at the time as the work being carried out appeared to be that of a high standard and we seemed to be slowly but surely moving forward. After a another 4-6 weeks and reviews, revisions and a bit of tidying up; the site was to a completed standard that I was happy with so that I could send it live (Obviously SEO was not attempted at this stage until content and the site was live). Brian then asked for the remainder of the payment to be sent and the rest of the job would be completed in due course. I did then pay in full (probably my downfall here) and it all seemingly went downhill.

During this time I had also referred some of my clientele to Brian for design work (Whom seemingly also struggled with time constraints and getting their jobs completed within a fixed amount of time - a.k.a 2 weeks taking 10 weeks); which again doesn't bode well for me sending my loyal trusting customers to a service which doesn't exactly provide what is said on the tin.

The introduction of Twitter API1.1 then caused a few issues with our Twitter Nav bar and again as the work was still incomplete, this issue and a lack of SEO was still an issue. After very limited contact via Skype/Email I was told the works would be completed soon. I waited and waited and still no updates. Weekly emails and constant skype messages which are unanswered. I received a message telling me things have been difficult and he has a lot of work on at the moment and he has just married etc etc (This is all well and good but surely you don't take on more work if you can't finish the work you already have!?)

So rant over, I am in November and still have a 80% completed job nearly half a year on. I think Brian is a nice guy and a competent coder but just be very careful about paying in full and the time element it will take for him to complete any works.

    Hey there, Anthony.

First and foremost -- I apologize for being less than responsive and less than attentive to the project. There have been many changes recently in my personal life and my efforts to handle them without affecting my work have been unsuccessful.

I have an email from you indicating the issues you're experiencing with the site. I'll respond to that email and will ask for anything I may need from there.

I really do want to provide the best service that I can. I admittedly have failed to do so as of late, but I'm going to do everything I can to get back to the place I used to be with my clientele (in terms of service & satisfaction).

I'll be in touch here soon. :-)

Nice review. Very mature sounding if that makes sense.

I never dealt with Brian, but I have seen positive comments about him in the past.
Nice to see him own up and willing to work things out.

Good luck to both of you

I will keep the thread updates on developments, of course, and I am too sure that we will get to a finish point eventually.

    Hey Brian,

Glad you have the email. Sure you can also hit me up on Skype at anytime. I will be testing and getting some testers on the case to look for any minor issues cross platform etc.

    Thanks.

The majority of the work is already live on our website now. Its just the finishing touches that have not been implemented and the hidden stuff like SEO.

Nothing against you or your website, but...

His footer looks exactly like one of my designs. :/

Well thats obviously something you would have to chat to Brian about yourself...But footers are relatively generic on most sites these days from what I have seen...

It is a generic footer, and I'm not taking sides here but I do see where jTam is coming from, it does look extremely similar. However if it's something the designer did for you then obviously you wouldn't have known so it's not your fault at all.

Hey there, John! -- Hope all is well!

If I recall correctly, Anthony wanted the footer to look like that site. Now of course I don't feel comfortable taking credit for someone's creativity, and I'm certainly NOT a designer but a web developer. I even tried to make variations to the footer but if I recall, he was pretty set on the footer's design.

Admittedly, it's not clear where the morale compass lies here, at least for me. While I don't and would not perform a job where someone requests a full site rip (it's come up before), there are cases where clientele have already seen what they want and they know it.

I hope you know that I both respect you and your beautiful work. I very well should have and could have reached out to you before using your design as inspiration or even as a template to work from, and for not doing so, I am terribly sorry.

    Thanks!

I have had an on going project now with Brian for about 9 months. We've gone through every excuse in the book, and he basically doesn't respond ever anymore. While the working relationship was once good, it is completely soured now. He still has yet to produce anything on the last project we paid for, or to refund any monies, yet we were told he was done with it. Go figure.

I would advise against using him at this point in time. Sadly.

This thread is well over a year old, none-the-less, it is really sad to see a person / company make promises they cannot keep. I would think that once someone's reputation is on the line that they would actively seek to clear or maintain their good name but that surely does not seem to be the case here. I am sure bahawolf is making time to reply to other customers so why not all of them?

I apologize to both Adam & Anthony whom have replied to this thread. I've sent them both an email earlier today in an effort to try to fix things for them, as that is the least that I can do. There is no excuse for letting any project go to the wayside, but I tried my very best to keep control of things as long as I could.

During the time that these projects went south, I had a lot going on and lost control of the situation. In a mere 30 days, I was rear ended twice by other irresponsible drivers and suffered injuries that resulted in me falling behind in my daytime job. Even when I did finally catch up, the company was struggling and I was working 14-16 hour shifts (or longer) every day, including weekends, since December. I was trying my best to prioritize their work but failed to do so because I didn't have the time and resources to make it happen.

I'd like to make it right for the both of you, and will get this resolved if given the opportunity to do so. It's not about reputation management; it is about doing the right thing now that my schedule has started to normalize a bit more and I see myself having the capability to meet my own timelines.

I appreciate that are you actively trying to resolve the issues Brian and I am sorry for any addition to your personal issues, if any from my side. I will be replying in due course regards the situation. Just some advice I think publicly for anyone reading this thread, never try to paper over the cracks if there are issues. Just be straight with your customers, give regular reasons or even post a notice on your website. Just don't leave your customers in the dark!
