I'm still on the trial version of WinZip which unfortunately seems to be endless

    Alternatively, I use 7-zip.

    7zip

No, when we had windows on all our office computers, we used 7Zip. We still have it on the machines we haven't installed CentOS on to!

I think WinZip is just a victim of its tech being available free elsewhere. I had paid for licenses up through 4-5 years ago. Excellent product and probably still is. But then, either Vista or Windows 7 came with zip access built into Windows explorer. Now you have 7zip for everything else and it's free. I imagine that WinZip still has some specialized uses but they are being narrowed.

Yes, although it was about 6 years ago. Switched to winrar about 2010 and not looked back.

Since at least Win 7 (maybe earlier?), Windows has had the zip utility, buying something like winzip is rather silly.

Haven't purchased winrar either, only use it once in a while

I bought Winzip years and years ago. I don't even remember how to re-license the thing. I never use it anymore.

I think that 7zip is a much better alternative, and it's also free.

Not for years since zipping has been included within Windows (and Mac) OS

I've always used winrar. After reading the commments, I may have to try 7zip though.

  31. #31
Nah, I actually used WinZip (the trial, of course) for a long time before realizing there was alternatives.
What I don't get though, is how many is using WinRAR with all it's nag screens and such, when there is a free (and simpler) alternative which is equally fast, does almost all the same things and is open source.
    I say 7-zip for life.
