As far as I know you can send someone a naked pic with it and have it delete after like 5 seconds of seeing it so the guy or girl don't show all of their friends. I believe it also lets the user know if the person receiving the message took a screenshot of it to know if they are going to spread it.

Silly though, if you don't trust the guy or girl enough making you require snapchat, then you shouldn't be sending those types of pics over the phone or at all.

Now there could certainly be other uses for it but I don't see any. As far as I know most phones can send an image directly without any external apps so maybe someone could enlighten me to the reason why it's used other than sexting.

that's just deleted from the servers (if it's deleted at all, and not just moved). Saving it to your phone/tablet is still quite possible.
For legal reasons, one wouldn't think this was actually deleted from the servers they use, just archived.

I thought SnapChat was that thing where you send a photo and someone draws on it?

    I've got no idea.

I've got a smartphone that I use for dumbphone things.

Either way, don't care to use it.

It not popular amongst adults.. many teens do use it... a lot of issues with bullying/ cyberbullying with it.

I for one don't support it.

Adults send nudies with it as well. You will be surprised.

The thing about snapchat that bothers me is that 13 - 18 year olds have access to it.

    Snapchat is socially "cool/in."

Close. It doesn't save on servers, or so they say, and it can't save on phones or tablets, and it notifies you if someone takes a screenshot of it.

I really like the app. I use it to send goofy pics of my dog to my gf while she is at work. You can add text and you can even send video. It's neat!

I don't know. Id rather kids use something like this rather than text pics all over where records are kept. At least there's no trail here to fall into the wrong hands. Don't get me wrong. I'd rather them use nothing at all and have some respect for themselves, but alas, I was a kid once.

That's a legal accident just waiting to happen, if it's true. You could VERY easily use this to stalk someone harass them, do all kinds of things that would require their records and archives.

    From their page:

When you send or receive Snaps, we also temporarily collect, process and store the contents of the Snaps (such as photos, videos and/or captions) on our servers.
So, they do store the data, at least temporarily. This, again, is a very grey area legally one would assume.

You just contradicted yourself there. Yes, it can save on tablets/phones , and you just said how . That's also easily bypassed, and doesn't cover, say my camera (not phone) taking a shot of it, etc.

It has been a big hit over in the UK for sure! You can take a screenshot of the image - but it does tell the user that sent it that they did this. Who knows what the storage regime is and what they do with the millions of pictures that filter through their servers!?

lol well yeah, you can do whatever you want with a jail broken phone. I guess you got me there.

I don't get what you mean by legal grey. Where's the legal issue there? And I'm not sure what sort of harassing can truly be done when it's username and friend based. They can't blow up your snapchat unless you friend them and let them.

There's a reason email providers are required by law to keep XX years of email activity. While one may not agree with it, that can be used against (or for) them. The same goes for this kind of activity honestly

It's popular because the images disappear right after the recipient views them. People then feel more free to send certain pictures. Sometimes it's as innocent as someone sending a quick picture of themselves with bed hair. =P

Very popular with kids that trust the pictures they send are going to someone as ignorant as them self.

It is also a very popular median for online dating - instead of releasing your phone number - they go through the next phase of online dating - but of course sometimes skipping this step altogether.

Once bandwidth speeds improve we will see short video instead of pictures.
