Quick question for the community - what are your experiences in comparing performance of a dual cpu x5675 setup @ 3.07ghz vs a Dual E5-2620v2 setup running at 2.10ghz?
Which CPU would you select, and why?
Presumably (big assumptions):
Dual E5-2620v2 may come with newer power supplies, and other components providing for longer trouble free operation
Dual E5-2620v2 may come with faster speed ram/bus/etc
Dual E5-2620v2 may support larger amount of total ram (assuming x5670 box is using a commly selected motherboard limited to 96 or 192gb ram) whereas the dual e5 boards more commonly support 256gb/384gb/768gb RAM.
Dual E5-2620v2 may come with newer more feature full ipmi/kvm (included at all)?
My choice would be the new gen server, the Dual E5 v2. The x5675 is a few years old.

Would have to agree 100% with gordonrp - there are far more reasons to go with the newer Dual E5's than the X5675.
I'm not sure what the price differences are for the servers you're looking at, but it would be worth paying a bit extra for the newer platform for all of the reasons gordon listed; longer life, better power optimization, runs cooler, more breathing room for upgrades.
What incentive would you have to pick the older model? I'm guessing there is a huge price break in the servers you're looking at?
