You need efi boot for mega sized boot disks. You can either go the gpt/efi route, or you can simply (assuming you're using hardware raid) create a small raid set for your /boot etc and then a bigger raid for your / or /home. You can create both raids on the same disk sets, e.g. 2x raid 10 sets if you had 4 disks. This keeps things simple when it comes time to load the os.
