cPanel - Email account migration Problem

    Hello,

I have a little problem here, i'm trying to separate mail from web, since the full account is larger than 500GB, i've decided to not do a full backup and restore on the new server, all i need is email. i migrated the mailbox content to the new box using rsync... there is more than 100 Mailboxes on the server, so basically we can't create them again and ask user to update password, i have searched and found this :

    http://forums.cpanel.net/f43/exporti...nts-93125.html

I got the accounts on the server, i can access webmail but once i choose a webmail client (horde, roundcube...) i got Login fail Message

    Roundcube logs show this :

    [[email protected] - /root # tail -fn0 /var/cpanel/roundcube/log/errors
[28-Oct-2013 04:08:02 -0400]: IMAP Error: Login failed for [email protected] AUTHENTICATE PLAIN: Authentication failed. in /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/roundcube/program/lib/Roundcube/rcube_imap.php on line 184
    Help would be appreciated

The method they give works, but you have to follow it exactly. I've done this in the past couple of months, so, unless they've changed it (doubtful, but possible), it will work.

    Did you rsync over everything?
    /home/user/mail
    /home/user/etc

    Did you change permissions?
Have you tried adding an email account? Sometimes, oddly enough, that's all it takes.

I have fixed permissions for some accounts manually, i mean user by user and seems to be working!

If you have access to rsync on the old server, I would strongly advise setting up a followup cron job, rsyncing mail from old to new every few hours. This will help catch those stragglers that don't actually update dns immediately
