Need help to select best server configuration

    Hello,

I need help to choose between these 3 configs:

3.5Ghz E3-1270V3 Haswell Xeon with HT
    32GB RAM
    4 x 120GB SSD RAID10
    =$300

    or

3.5Ghz E3-1270V3 Haswell Xeon with HT
    32GB RAM
    2 x 300GB SSD RAID1
    = $336
    or

    Dual Quad-Core 5520 2.26GHz Intel Nehalem Xeon w/ HT & Turbo Boost
    72GB RAM
    2 x 300GB SSD RAID1
    =$297

Server will be standard LAMP without cpanel installed. We'll run only our own sites there.

    thank you...

Can you be more specific about what you'll be doing on it/what sort of sites you'll be running? Are you currently running them now, and if so, do you know approximately how much memory they're eating up (and how much disk space they're using)?

Those are all very nice machines, but we can really only recommend which one to go for based on what you'll be doing with it, since the specific differences between them will match up to different use cases.

What's your CPU usage and current load like? Also, I'm assuming that you're talking about hardware RAID, correct? Is there any difference in RAID card among those three configurations?

I currently have 2 x Dual Quad-Core 5520, 24GB RAM and 4 x 120GB 15K SAS drives in RAID10, I have to move because of billing problems with current provider. CPU load is under 1.
RAID controller on these 3 configs is the same.

I've was very curious what kind of billing issues you may have. For your questions I will always choose the new E3 CPU with 4 x HDD RAID-10 for redundancy as the 5520 CPU was pretty old.

Go with either one of the E3 1270 V3 servers, the Dual L5520 is a dinosaur.

the latest because it's cheaper and has more memory...
you're on 15k SAS now, SSDs have way better IO so you'll be fine.

Need help to select best server configuration

    i think in my ways:
    Dual Quad-Core 5520 2.26GHz Intel Nehalem Xeon w/ HT & Turbo Boost
    72GB RAM
    2 x 300GB SSD RAID1
    =$297
but you select raid5 storage is best becuase in this parity use and also you can recover your data.

Raid5 with 2 disks? Come on, you need minim 3... Then raid5 is not recommended for db... I would stick with raid1...

If you use that low memory capacity a month, any options you listed seem to be unnecessarily pricy for you. There are probably many dedi server providers out there that offer you lower RAM which is enough to suit your needs with the same or similar performance of cpu you mentioned. First googling with the cpu model, RAM capacity, HDD you want might help you find cost-effective provider for your needs.
