Which CPU should I use: 8150 vs 3770K
Hi,
first of all I would emphasize that I am 'just' a student, who wants to earn some $ by selling webspace and vps servers.
However, my goal is not to start a serios / big / professional hosting company. My customers will be some companys I am working at, friends, few gamers..
I have planned to buy 2 servers: 1 for the webspace (cloud linux, cpanel/directadmin?), 1 for the virtualization (solusVM?)
I am able to choose between 2 dedicated servers, the price difference is $15 (the intel 3770K is more expensive).
Which would you choose, especially for which of the server is which better or the best:
1.AMD FX-8150, 8 Core, 3.6 GhZ
32GB DDR3-1600MhZ
2TB SATA3, 7.200 rpm, 64MBIntel Core i7 3770K, 4Core + 4HT, 3.5GhZ
32GB DDR3-1333MhZ
2TB SATA3, 7.200 rpm, 64MB
Thanks

I don't know about those two CPUs, but I wouldn't even try VMs on Solus with a single SATA drive. I'd say RAID10 at minimum.

For the virtualization server I've planned 4 * 2TB SATA and software raid1. Why raid 10 at minimum?
Maybe you can tell me if Intel 4 core + 4HT or AMD 8core is better for a solus (would you use solus in my position?) server? (and maybe even for a webspace server)

RAID1 gives you redundancy, but no write-speed improvement. With RAID1 you'd soon find disk I/O (specifically write-speeds) becomes a bottleneck.

The 3770 is a year-old desktop system. I have one here. Neither are server grade hardware. That board has a number of quirks, and I'd hate to have it as a server. For one, it runs hotter than server CPUs.

I already know about the desktop fact. Is there a big difference, especially in performance on servers?
The hoster providing me with this hardware is a 'bigger one', actually they run lot of servers without having problems the cpu's becoming to hot.
