    Need Host for Joomla 1.0.12

I have a client who rebuilding his site in Drupal but for another few months need to run his ancient Joomla 1.0.12, but my servers have PHP 5.3 and so it won't run.

I just so happen to have an old account on HostGator and Joomla 1.0.12 won't even install there--probably cause it's so old.

Anyhow know who can run this software?

    Thanks.

It would be easier to simply try to setup a server yourself local like on VirtualBox and setup old exploitable versions of LAMP and run it.

You might try pinging the Joomla developers to see if they have any convertible scripts that would at least get you to a much safer version of Joomla.

1.0.12 is full of so many security holes - even if you get it online - it'll probably be hacked to pieces within a few hours.

    I wouldn't advise it regardless.

    ^This.
Looks to me like it's time for a placeholder "New Site Coming Soon" while he migrates to 2.5. Otherwise as mentioned, the site will get trashed anyway.

Well it's been online continuously for several years and it has indeed been hacked a few times, it's certainly not going to be hacked "within a few hours." In fact, it was online until just this month when we upgraded PHP.

He knows it's insecure, he wants it online anyway.

The only thing keeping it from being hacked within minutes is that they're all very old security issues that likely aren't being scanned for as vigorously as a newer exploit would be.

Regardless of the time frame it's an insecure time bomb that's just waiting to explode - put it online at your own peril.

I think you are probably going to have a hard time finding a shared host, since most servers will be running newer versions of PHP. I'd suggest you pickup a cheap VPS for < $10/m, setup a Apache, PHP, MySQL (A LAMP Box), and put him on that for a few months and then cancel after he has updated things. There are plenty of tutorials to get up and running that will help you if you search.

The main issue is that any host that would be running old EOL server-side software is already opening itself to needless vulnerabilities. I would say any such host would not be a reliable host or a host worth going with. So even if you find a host running old software, they wouldn't be going with because they have old software running in the first place.

If no matter what you still need to run Joomla ver1, then your only option would be to purchase a VPS or dedicated server and install the software you need that is sufficient to run that particular version of Joomla.

However, note that running a VPS or dedicated server, regardless of the management (some may refuse to manage such old software) most offer, will require close attention (even more so if it's deliberately vulnerable) and it will be open to a lot of vulnerabilities. Ultimately it's going to be a headache, may as well get the Aspirin ready .
