Help! Why is my server suddenly running painfully slow?!
Hi, I've had a server for over a year and everythings been running pretty smooth. Now suddenly for past week or so my site been running PAINFULLY SLOW! It'll take nearly 2-4 hours to download a 100mb wmv file. I dont know exactly what went wrong. I haven't tweaked anything. So why the sudden slowness?
I'm not a server wizard. So I don't know the in-depth things to do to check.
Is there a way to look into cpanel to find out whats wrong? If so, what?
What can the issue be?

Well unless you run your own data center, you are a customer of a hosting company.

If the server is reporting optimal stats, it can be a network issue ( either at server level or at your end ). Downloading speed is not just depending on server, but depends end-user's INTERNET speed as well. Just to confirm your network, try donwloading any other files and confirm it. If you can confirm it is not your local problem, issue a download and check server status closely. If IO / load are good, check system logs or do a reverse donwload of a file to the server (that way you can check the upload / download speed ). If the result is not as expcted, talk to your network / datacenter support.

Ok, thx everyone for there comments! I contacted my server hosts and they suggested to upgrade from 10mbps to 100mbps. I did that!
But the server is STILL running extremely slow! Nothing has changed! Its still taking 2-4 hours just to download a 100mb wmv file...

In that event only your server provider can assist you. There should be network related issue or may be they forgot to move you 100mbps network.
