    Nginx question

Sorry I'm new to servers and just trying to get some idea as I have to get my sites running without any problem .

I'm looking to get a pure SSD plan from wired tree with 4GB RAM.

I just want to know, shall I ask them to install and conjure nginx ?

Is nginx an addon over apache ?

    Or what that is ?

And is there an extra configuration needed on the websites after installing nginx ?

Do I need to take Liteapeed apart from nginx ?

SSD will help you with I/O bottlenecks you might have with a physical HDD.

NGINX will not do a miracle, however it is good to serve static content (really fast for it), while you can use apache for the dynamic content.

There isn't special settings necessary, just read about nginx reverse proxy implementation.

    Nginx question

So ask them to install varnish too ?

I heard good things about memcached.

Can I simply ask them to install nginx and memcached for me ? I have bad experience with varnish though. Last time the host installed it, all of my sites went down for 2 hours

Having a lightweight apache/nginx at the front and a heavyweight apache/PHP at the back is a common setup.

Can we us nginx, varnish cache and then install memcached or APC ?

Since we use Magento, I found this article,
    http://www.meteorify.com/2012/12/cre...-server-setup/

    He says,

Your .htaccess will no longer work, that’s because we’re not using Apache anymore. So any unique changes in there need to be transfered directly to your PHP settings or to your nginx VHOST setup.

Does that mean, once we are using nginx , we cant use htaccess thing ?
How do we do that then ?

Varnish + Nginx + SSD will perform better than apache .Overall depends on how you configure and optimize the same ,

    Nginx question

I just got a new account with wired tree . They sold me telling fully managed server .

Now when we asked them to install varnish and nginx they need 75$ per hour!

    Damn.

For now I have asked them to install DSO and memcached and APC only .

I am sorry that you are upset but this was specifically asked during pre-sales communication and you were told that anything pre-installed or within cPanel would be covered under the scope of support. You were also told that you would be responsible for any 3rd party products or code you brought to the server. You could install nginx if you would like but unless it's installed as a reverse proxy for Apache, it will break cPanel functionality and that is a situation we don't want to put our client's in.

WiredTree said, they dont support nginx, so Im stuck.

I had to buy Litespeed, but dont see the speed difference with Litespeed though. Not sure, whats going on.

Try memcached and APC which they'll add for free, and LiteSpeed Web Server (there is a small monthly fee for the last). I find it works extremely well with SSD.

I took litespeed, but I dont any noticeable change.

    Can you try this URLs,

    joomclub.org
    mageclub.org
    qubesys.com

Joomclub is slow because of the twitter bootstrap code you're loading from Netdna. Load it from the local server instead. http://www.webpagetest.org/result/13...3T5/1/details/

Mageclub is too large. When you're building a site for speed you should try to keep it under 100 object requests and 1000kb total page file size. Optimize your images would save 3/4ths of a megabyte right there, and putting fewer items on the page would as well. http://www.webpagetest.org/result/131028_BQ_3T7/

Qubesys has the same basic problem - too many objects and a large total page file size. I suspect you also don't have caching set up (or up correctly) on this WP site. http://www.webpagetest.org/result/13...3T9/1/details/

Keep in mind that memcached or APC won't have ANY effect unless the site is built to take advantage of those packages. Also keep in mind that you're using a lot of PNG images. Unless you need transparency, jpg is usually much smaller and faster for a negligible difference in quality.

    Hope this helps!
