YunDC.net Korea KVM VPS Review
I would like to share my experience with YunDC.net. Overall, it is a positive review . I have purchased their South Korea virtual private server about a week ago. I have requested KVM instead of Xen to benefit from full virtualization and more bandwidth (extra 200GB was offered on the 2048MB VPS).
I will start with the ordering process. I ordered their 2048MB VPS plan with 2GB RAM, 4 CPU, 800GB bandwidth at 1Gbps (custom KVM, not advertised). They used WHMCS and the OS selection was simple. The downside is that they only offered 3 Operating Systems, where were CentOS 5.9 64bit, Fedora 11 and Ubuntu 12.04. Even though KVM supported any custom ISO, they didn't provide any other operating systems. So I picked CentOS 5.9. It was a pity that they didn't offer instant setup but the setup time of my VPS was under 2 hours.
The support at YunDC is amazing. There seems to be more than 5 staff members and they work from 9:00AM to 24:00PM (total 15 hours). I asked any question and got a response back within 15mins! The VPS is unmanaged but they will occasionally give a hand to reinstall the OS and investigate any problems without any cost. I, myself am a tech-savvy guy and don't normally use support but did encounter a problem. The OS was installed with Korean locale, I installed my software without noticing the different locale and this distorted my software functions. It was too late to change the locale to English and the OS had to be reinstalled. David did this under an hour and everything was working fine later. He installed directly from the ISO, so it was no quick template. The only let down is their English. This can sway any customers. They can write English in an understandable manner, but their grammar and sentence structure need to be improved. I know they are from Asia but shouldn't be an excuse. YunDC staff clearly shows dedicated, effort and professionalism. I will rate their support 4.5/5. (Unfortunately, I have deducted 0.5 marks for their grammar/sentence structure).
YunDC offered me a choice of XEN or KVM after I made my order. I chose KVM due to the extra traffic, CPUs (800GB, 4 cores) and full virtualization benefits. I also asked about if they offered IaaS Cloud VPS, it was great news that they would offer it in the near future with 8CPU, 1TB HDD, 1TB bandwidth at a reasonable price. The downside is that if you do go over your bandwidth, the over usage charges is 0.2c per GB. For example, additional 500GB will cost $100 USD. ICMP and traceroutes from the VPS are blocked by a hardware firewall but that didn't really matter to me. Another issue faced is that they didn’t offer any higher plans, 2GB RAM was the max. Also, there was no VNC console. The other option they offered me was a dedicated server which was over my budget. I also believe YunDC’s VPS are value for money. $39.90 a month is cheap considering the bandwidth. Rating: 4.5/5 (0.5 is deduced for not having higher KVM specifications/VNC Console).

I have only one word to say, incredible! YunDC offers bandwidth at 1Gbps. There is no congestion at all. This is actually true and able to get more than 330mbps on a single thread to another Korea IDC. To Linode Japan, I am getting about 200mbps. YunDC has told me that they have private colocation space in SK Broadband's datacenter. SK Broadband has an AS number of 9314 and has many premium Tier-1 transits. The main one is NTT which is excellent to service Asia. The others are Level 3, TeliaSonera and PCCW which provide connectivity to SK Broadband's US PoP. I have noticed connectivity to Europoean ISPs is not so great, very low speeds on a single wget. Another network I noticed that YunDC offers hosting services is GDSYS (KDTIDC AS). I believe this one is solely hosting dedicated servers, no broadband customers. This network has a BGP mix of Korea Telecom, LG DACOM and SK Broadband. In this way, all of the largest independent ISPs in Korea are combined and provides excellent connectivity internationally (many private/public peerings and transits). The only downside is that YunDC has informed me that only dedicated servers with 10Mbps Dedicated Unmetered is offered due to higher costs. YunDC does not plan to expand their traffic agreements with GDSYS. So then, it seems to me that SK Broadband is still an excellent choice if you want capacity and diverse network but GDSYS will be an enterprise high-availability choice. I will give YunDC for a 4 for their network arrangements. (1 is deducted for European connectivity).
YunDC's website is based on a common theme and layout. It can be improved and if they wish for serious business, they should get a custom theme made. Grammar and sentence structure issues are evident on the website. The website does show a clear overview of the services they offer with no page errors or hyperlink issues. From my personal opinion on a hosting provider's website, it is the quality of the services they offer that it is important but the website does aid the reputation of the company. I will rate their site 3/5.
I recommend anyone looking for Asia based hosting; YunDC is the provider to go with. YunDC provides excellent and reliable service. To date, there has been no downtime and the traffic flows perfectly.
TOTAL RATING over 4 areas: 16/20. In another 2 weeks time, I will update the review on how it is going!

Might want to look at KTs Cloud (Olleh? ucloud.biz), 1TB BW at a bit (~10$) less (but with less RAM/HDD i think).
