How much space, power and bandwidth do you require? Most providers in Richmond require a half cab to start!

Even if you fine some they might be offering terms you would not like. I would suggest you to find a Colo provider that hosts its infrastructure in a more competitive market. There are plenty of providers in Ashburn and Vienna, VA. It's less than 2 hours driving and you'd probably not need to go to the data center every day.

QTS has a huge facility in Richmond, may be a reseller in there. Otherwise, you have a lot of options elsewhere in VA.

Besides QTS in Richmond, Peak 10 has two sites there and COX has a site in Norfolk. We recently did a study of VA sites, and there are a lot of options north of Richmond, but the drive is likely 1.5 hours.

Most of the above are in Northern VA, you could try Solutrix as an option for Richmond VA

QTS would be a good choice and Solutrix as a smaller provider would also be a good choice. Really depends on your comfort level, some people prefer the big guys and some people prefer the smaller guys. If you are set on Richmond, you can find what you need there and no need to drive far. Can't go wrong keeping things simple and manageable. Hopping in the car and driving 2 hours is stressful when you have a hardware problem.

    Thanks for the S/O @AstoundCom.

I second that statement earlier - go to a more robust market and you'll find much better connectivity. Most data centers offer KVM over IP so you can control your servers remotely, and then just order reboots as needed. Often times, reboots are included.

So even if your data center is 2 hours away in Ashburn, VA, you'll have a more dependable facility, better connectivity etc., but you'll only have to drive out set up your gear, if you do.

Most providers will rack your equipment inclusively as part of your contract. For this reason, you'll probably want to start talking to a few and expressing your needs, and they'll most likely work with you to get your business.
