Advice on getting started in server reselling?

I had initially wanted to start my own dedi server business with one server, but people on here advised me that that's a bad option, which I am thankful for.

I do not have a website, and don't want one as of yet, so if I do do this I will contact people myself until I get a little built up. Basically I am interested in dedi server reselling, as I said. I am not sure, however, of how these servers are typically priced - Should I just check up on what the current dedi server prices are, see If I can match those specs, and go a bit cheaper if I still profit? Are there any recommended hosts I should consider?

Any tips or advice are appreciated, if you have a question for me I can answer it. Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you want to resell dedicated servers, you need to put a website first as most providers require this before you can sell their servers.

Why not start from reselling shared hosting first? This will give you a start to know what hosting business is.

He probably wants to sell dedi only, as it has a higher profit margin.

As I said, I don't want a website yet, and reselling dedicated servers, not dedicated servers. But yes, no web hosting / etc. as of yet.

Ok. Do you have any specific questions to ask so we can help you in a better way? As for a start you should have a good knowledge about dedicated servers before selling them, what type of support are planning to provide to your customers? Can you afford real 24/7 support to at least do the reboots? Do you know how to deal with abuse issues? there are so many things you need to learn but again its not impossible

My point is, would you buy off a Dedicated Server Provider without a website? no you wouldn't - it's unthinkable.

I do not understand his motives behind selling dedicated servers without a website, it seems potentially scam creeping to me.

    - Offer Dedicated servers via email for incredibly cheap prices (with monster specs) payment created and initiated via paypal, then job's done - scam complete. This is possible, it does happen because once upon a time it happened to me.

Most dedicated reseller programs require you to already have a fully built and functioning website. Will you be buying the servers yourself and renting them out or do you want to be a middle man and resell them.

Also take into consideration how will you provide support along with sales support? Will it be just you running this or do you expect to hire other people for help. I don't think this is a one mans team it at least should be two people. Dedicated servers are an important role in today's hosting industry.

Check out dedicated resellers like singlehop they give you lots of freebies and tools / equipment.

Best of luck. Also selling with out a site will be hard .. How will you provide support to your customers along with news and information ?

Like all business startups, you're getting ahead of yourself if you haven't developed some sort of a business plan. Instead of first getting granular with conceptualizing what your income pipelines will be, it's important to nail down the ins and outs of your business.

Begin with a standard business plan. It will serve as an important template when asking questions about things like customer base, overall profitability, and costs.

    Good Luck! Dan

Agree. Most server providers require resellers to be an established hosting provider and also there is minimum server requirements for discount.
