How would you setup this config? (Dual Web Servers)
Apologize for a lengthy first post!
I am the web programmer for my company, don't deal with the hardware/network issues too much... until now.
We recently purchased 2 identical Dell + Win 2012 web servers to migrate to; one to be our main server in our main office, and the other to be a mirrored fail-over in our second location.
I currently have our websites on a win 2008 box (PHP + a separate file server with MySQL). We host our own servers (backup power supply etc) and have also acquired 2 dedicated IP's for each of our websites. My superiors would like to have both web servers identical and online all the time.
-Each website has 2 avail dedicated IP's (from different ISPs) so if one ISP goes down, the other SHOULD take over
-How would DNS be setup for this failover? (DNS on each server?)
-How would one server be designated the primary and the other the secondary?
Your biggest challenge will be making sure the site content stays in sync. For the MySQL database you can use replication , for your sites files it will depend on how often these change and if they accept things like uploads.
If you get that sorted you can use a third party failover service like DNSMadeEasy which should be real cheap and efficient.
