My current host of 6 years, MediaLayer.com, is spectacular in every way except one. Storage is very expensive. My email needs are growing to a point where I can no longer afford to store my mail on their servers. So I'm looking for a second host solely to handle mail.
I need 10GB storage minimum and reliable email service. <$10/month would be great. Any suggestions?
I've already considered Google Apps but I have too many users to afford the $5/user/month. Outlook.com provides a similar service for free but their IMAP just doesn't play well with Mac Mail for some reason.
I'm currently looking at StableHost. $5.95 for 7GB might actually suffice for now. I see they get pretty good reviews on here, but can anyone comment on their support response times? I'm starting to think I should look for a host that can be a potential replacement to MediaLayer. The email move could be a good chance to try out someone new.
Ask about the spam tolerance too. Many hosting providers ave zero spam tolerance policy and will shut down your service if they receive even one/two spam complaints.
Very true. For us, we will notify the client and if we don't hear a response within 12 hours regarding spam (sometimes sooner if we get tons of reports), we will shut it down. HOWEVER, if the client has their own dedicated IP address, we're a touch more lenient as it won't necessarily affect other users. We still will deal with the spam issue, but won't suspend as it will only end up hurting your site by getting on a spam list

There's a few hosts too who use services like SpamTitan or SpamExperts, that way you don't have to worry about their shared IP being in a blacklist. At the same time, you get the benefit of not having spam in your inbox.
I think most hosts are using inbound and outbound filtering.
And, like others have said, I'd just send a few sales tickets in for custom quotes on it. Less than $10 a month shouldn't be a problem for most providers. Just a quick question though, the 10GB, is that 10GB in total for all email accounts, or 10GB for each account?
