    WARNING about BlockScript aka Blocked.com

I purchased the BlockScript software (now called Blocked.com) because it had a nice API that I could use. I liked it so much that I had a ton of my clients purchase it as well.

Now they say that they are discontinuing API access and the only way to use this software is to include the PHP file in whatever file you want to protect. Seriously? Like... I'm going to just INCLUDE an unauditable, encoded file into my software? I don't think so. It's already been nulled a million times and its source is available on any rogue site, so no thanks!

So, I wrote to them asking them why they were discontinuing API access. They wrote back with:

    Christopher,

Please explain how you are/were using the Blocked software. I am particularly interested in what your use of the Blocked software has to do with your clients.

    Regards,

When I replied, he again responded with this:
    Christopher,

We have issued you a full refund of $194 via PayPal. Your Blocked Licenses have been revoked. Goodbye and good luck.

    Regards,

    Justin Schlecter, President

So, when I ask him to please be as expeditious with my cusomers' refunds as he was with mine, he replies with:
    Christopher,

We will process requests from our clients on a case-by-case basis. I suggest that you focus on running your business instead of potentially interfering with ours.

    Regards,

So, it's clear this guy cares nothing about his customers or their needs. He simply expects seasoned PHP developers to blindly INCLUDE his potentially insecure file into your application and pray that it works. Well, sorry, but that practice among professional developers simply won't do.

A quick look at his linkedin profile shows a list of his sites.

It's interesting that he also runs a proxy service. If this guy sells scripts to block proxies, why is he running a proxy service. And, is this proxify service blocked in Blockscript? Probably not.

I wish I had known all this before I purchased his software and told my clients to do the same. I'm embarassed to have to go back to them and explain all this.

Just seems like a conflict of interest. It's like Symantec starting a trust fund for the Anonymous group.

Can you post the whole story instead of half of it that makes them look bad? I am on the fence about ordering a license so your feedback might help me decide.

My side doesn't matter. The customer is always right and nobody should have to pay for that kind of abuse.
