    * Need Hard Drive Recommendation with Raid-10

Hi, i've been trying to find the best hard drive for performance and i/o but i'm not sure which hard drives to get so I need some recommendations.

The Setup: It's going to be on a "DELL CS24-TY 1U SERVER DUAL XEON L5520 2.26GHZ CPU'S 36GB MEMORY 4x HDD TRAYS SERVER" with a raid-10 configuration. I need at least 2-4TB of usable hard drive with this. So, atleast a 1x4TB, or 4x2TB hard drives.

Please give me some recommendations for a hard drive to use, and not SSD's.

The server is for shared, web hosting server.

    I'm looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822178291

Seagate Constellation that you've linked are very reliable HDD's and you'll get very good performance in RAID 10 if used with appropriately powerful RAID card. I'll recommend LSI 9271-4i with CV and 4 * Seagate Constellation 2TB which will provide you with ~4TB usable space in RAID 10 setup.

Western Digital drives are good as well, but I prefer Seagate, also you need to know whether the HDD trays are 3.5" or 2.5".

Do you prefer Seagate or WD?

I would recommend Seagate ES.3 if you will ask me.

I have no failure with Seagate compared to WD.

We have found over the years that we get just about the same failure rate with every brand proportionate to how much we buy from them. So they're all about the same. That said, the great majority of our purchases are for WD HDDs.

We buy servers from Dell, so sometimes they ship with other brands, although they also seem to prefer WD drives (re-branded to Dell, but they are in fact RE3 or RE4 drives). But they also use Seagate, Samsung and Hitachi.
