The first issue is after trying to stop EXIM, the command line simply hangs...it doesn't appear to do anything. Is it attempting to be graceful about it and slowly shut it down, or should it just switch it off?

It wasn't a job offer or employment offer, so technically I guess it's still in the wrong place - however, you can't argue with an admin, so as you wish.

You can certainly debate the point with us, we do make mistakes.
In this case, however, even if the money was not "paid" on condition of employment, it was still a monetary award for services rendered, even if the service was advice.

Well, I see the angle and it's a good one. My philosophy, however, is that an exchange of energy/information can really only be matched with an equal exchange of energy. As, I suspect, there's little I have to offer, enough wad for two pints of beer seems like a reasonable exchange, rather than a more formal 'payment for services/advice'. Besides, I suspect the answer would have been forthcoming regardless of reward.
It's a moot point and not worth further discussing, and I assume that the solution remains accessible for others to find, regardless of where it's filed.
