Question Need VPS OpenVZ Provider Recommendation

    Hello,

I'm looking for a good provider of OpenVZ VPS servers. I'd like to start with one and maybe add 2 more.

I run a spam filtering service and I have a cabinet of computers at Hurricane electric. I'm running OpenVZ on my own boxes because I can modularize the functions. I have various SMTP servers, 3 kinds of DNS servers, Spam Assassin Servers, etc. Basically multiple incidences of the same configuration. So what I'm looking for is to have more of what I have now - but in different locations for redundancy.

My virtual servers are OpenVZ Centos 6 64 bit. That's what I need.

I would prefer it if I could just send a zip file of my virtual server and have you just install it from that.

The first (test) server I'll be trying out will just be a DNS server. This server can be tiny. Minimal memory, cpu, bandwidth.

I do not need a control panel, backups, or anything special.

Would be interested in trading spam filtering services for VPS. Or - I will trade an OpenVZ instance on my servers for one on yours.

Basically, I'm looking for a vendor that is reasonably priced and just works for a low maintenance customer who is very experienced with OpenVZ.

What is your budget for this? Any space and RAM requirements?

Just to let you know restoring a full backup you provide is really dangerous security thread for the VPS hosting provider.

256 megs of ram and 4 gigs of disk space is all I need.

    WebHostDog,

It might be a security threat if I weren't a trustworthy person. But anyone who googles me would know I'm no security threat.

Can you explain your comment in more detail, please?

Would it be possible for the OP to tar the root (/) directory and subdirectories (with appropriate excludes) of a correctly configured system, restore it on a newly initialized OpenVZ CentOS system, then reboot to get the appropriate networking dropped in place?

Your specs are so low that I would suggest just buying a cheap VPS from a good provider. Doing a trade deal type thing usually just ends bad, its better to keep it a B2B deal then a hand shake type deal.

I went with hudson valley host and so far so good. $33/year and I rsynced my stuff over theirs and restarted and it all works fine so far.

I'm going to let this run for a week. I might get 4 more servers from them for other functions.

Have you checked out OpenVZ's list of recommended hosts? - http://openvz.org/Hosting_providers - That's probably a good place to start looking because there are plenty of options.

To clarify for anyone reading that : that is just a wiki page and can be edited by anyone - it's not an official recommended list
