    East Coast USA budget suggestions

I have been renting the following at $120ish for around 1 year now:

    Code:
Intel Xeon Quad Core Ivy Bridge E3-1270 V2
16GB DDR3 Triple Channel Unregistered ECC Memory
    240GB SSD Intel 520
    1Gbps Public Network Port (Dedicated)
    10,000GB/mo Public Bandwidth
    3IPv4 IP Addresses
    IPMI/KVM
Now ideally, I would love to get similar specs while saving money. Is that a unreasonable request?

I could go a step back on the CPU but I cannot go without the 16GB RAM + 1Gbps connection along with some sort of IPMI/KVM for emergencies.

Support wise I can deal with average, but network must be excellent as it is for a game server and other such persistent connection services.

My current provider is offering the above with a regular harddrive instead of the SSD for basically half the price I am paying but they are being extremely difficult to deal with so I am strongly considering moving.

Suggestions are extremely welcome, especially from current customers as things change so quickly sometimes.

    Thanks for your time guys.

In all honesty, you got quite a nice deal there. I think it's hard finding a cheaper (and better network / service) deal for that budget.

I agree it was a excellent price 1 year ago, today I am not sure - thats why I ask

It makes one very bitter when they offer new customers a much better deal.

Take a look at Reliablesite.net in the Dedidicated Offers section. I was able to price an E3-1230 V3 with close specs for $109. It's the 240GB SSD ($30) that raises the price that high.

How is the server performing and how is the network/support? You can find it for slightly cheaper, but you'll more than likely sacrifice network/support. Do you really want to risk that over $20/month?

Do you have any exact location in mind? In fact $120 with above configuration is very affordable for serious provider.

Not a bad price considering the specs, its hard to find a reputable provider with this kind of pricing.

Well, considering that you look to hold onto a server for an extended period of time, (you mention 1 Year for this server), have you considered co-lo?

You can spec the server how you need/want it. You can get colo deals for a single 1RU server for ~ $50 if you look around. Just putting it out there to see if it makes sense to you.

Thanks for the ReliableSite suggestions, I have read every review on WHT and they sound like they are worth trying out Keeping an eye on all these promos that they do.

Colo is not really an option for me as I am from the UK yet net a East Coast USA server.

And honestly I would not have considered moving to save $10-20 but when your current provider has no interest in offering you the new customer's pricing/deals (In this case it would save me almost 50%) or in fact any good will gesture then I get bitter and move. A year of rental apparently counts for nothing in the hosting industry. I would rather move and try and build a relationship with somewhere that might give a damn. Did I mention bitterness.. yes ok glad we covered that.

I completely agree with you. There's no reason a company should not match their own pricing. That makes absolutely no sense on their part.

Its upto company pricing what Budget they chose for USA Region

  15. #15
That is a very good rate for that server imo.

The only way you can go cheaper is doing a colo. You know anyone in the USA that you trust enough to build you a server and mail it to a hosting place? Or find a colo place that you can have them build you a box (you paying for parts) then charge you a colo price?

Okay..? I didn't say anything about ReliableSite. I just said that in general.. budget providers typically (not always) lack in either the network or support region in order to cut costs.

I know, I never said you said anything about them.. you were speaking for budget providers in general. I was just saying that Reliablesite even though their prices could be considered "budget" their different then the rest. Their network and support thus far have been amazing. I do apologize if you mis-understood and got the wrong impression.

May I ask why you would not purchase one of your current provider's new solutions with their current pricing, then migrate your data? Or is this something they would not allow?

It is a good deal. The specs are good for the price you are paying. You can try the Dedicated Servers offer forum and do a search for "East Cost Budget". I believe you are going to find similar or higher prices for similar specs, but you can give it a try.

Also ReliableSite's servers located in Choopa Datacenter and has very fast and good latency network in East Coast.

The Choopa network does appear to be better to the UK

Try another ping test to Server Mania. Cogent has been removed from the network.

    Thank you for your consideration.

Choopa is a few hundred miles closer to London, hence the lower latency on that specific route.

ColoCrossing's network in Buffalo is Level3, XO and Telia as of yesterday (Cogent was removed, leaving 3 very high-end carriers).

Take that into consideration when considering your options.

Thanks, I have - the blips to 800-1000ms on your network are unacceptable for my requirements.

You can go with Choopa/Constant directly, they are excellent, I had a rental with them for almost a year then I switched to a colo, and I've had nothing but solid (100%) uptime and excellent support.
