I'm thinking which hosting companies are the best among siteground, pagely, wp engine, websynthesis, blue host, and dreamhost to upload my site powered by WordPress.
I checked specification and price. In terms of price, wp engine was the highest,
but it seems they have the best reviews by users.
Do you have any recommendations or real experience using those hosting services?
Synthesis and Dreamhost's WP hosting are also WP specific. I'm a Dreamhost customer from the regular shared hosting side, but I don't really know if their WP offering is any good.
I've chosen two generic cPanel hosts and not the specialist WordPress hosts, but I'm doing my own WordPress maintenance. I hear WP Engine is very good. I'd estimate how much time and effort you can save with a host like WP Engine, and see if it makes sense.
I don't have any direct experience with those hosts but as a general rule any host supporting PHP and MySQL is going to support wordpress. It's one of the most used platforms on the internet so not supporting wordpress would be a huge mistake. I wouldn't put any weight in those claiming WP optimized unless they tell you what that means. To me it's mostly an SEO tactic.
With WordPress, it all depends on your needs. Are you starting out, or do you have a very active WordPress site?
Then for hosting...anything that falls under EIG, take off your list.
Also any host (like DreamHost) that does WordPress on the side, is not offering anything different from their regular hosting. A few examples;
Host A - Package A, listed specs
Host A - Package A/WordPress, same specs as above
Host B - Package B, listed specs
Host B - Package B, same specs
With such hosts, you can host anything with them, which can be dangerous since customers might be using nulled themes, exploited plugins, outdated installations (customers never ever updated), etc
With a WordPress host, they add extra security, scan themes and plugins for any issues, operating systems and databases tuned specifically for WordPress...plus with some, no control panels or emails to slow down your site.
So if your starting out, an affordable reputable shared host will do, just make sure to research WordPress security from Day one of installation (the common hosts won't do this or mention this)...or pay a bit extra to have your site in good hands.
Stay away from blue host, and dreamhost...or Hostgator if you are thinking about them. First hand experience
Most of reliable hosts will run wordpress just fine.
