    How do I get mcrypt to play nice with CentOS 6

    We have a server running CentOS 6.4 64-bit and PHP 5.5.4

    We need mcrypt, but trying to install it returns:

    PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20121212/' - /lib64/ version `GLIBC_2.14' not found (required by /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20121212/
    Does that mean mcrypt requires glibc 2.14?

    Considering that CentOS comes with glibc 2.12, how do I get mcrypt to work on this system?

    Centos 6.x, PHP 5.5.4 and mcrypt will be a tricky combo.

    PHP 5.3.3 would let you use mcrypt from EPELs repo
    PHP 5.5.3 would let you use mcrypt from webtatics repo

    Anything else and I think you're gonna have to build from source or do some fancy rebuilding from Fedora SRPMs

    Do you think PHP 5.5.3 with mcrypt from webtatic would require glibc 2.14 ?

    Nope. Based off a quick VM install - Centos 6.4 with php/mcrypt from webtatic looks like this:

    [[email protected] ~]# rpm -qa | egrep "glibc|mcrypt|php" | sort

    [[email protected] ~]# php -r "echo phpinfo();" | grep ^mcrypt
    mcrypt support => enabled
    mcrypt_filter support => enabled
    mcrypt.algorithms_dir => no value => no value
    mcrypt.modes_dir => no value => no value

    I got mcrypt to work on Centos 6 by reinstalling PHP and everything that comes along with it. I believe that the version of PHP is 5.4.x though. This may help you anyway.

    sudo rpm -ivh
    sudo rpm -Uvh

    sudo yum -y install php php-fpm php-common
    sudo yum --enablerepo=remi -y install php-pecl-apc php-cli php-pear php-pdo php-mysql php-pecl-mongo php-sqlite php-pecl-memcache php-pecl-memcached php-gd php-mbstring php-mcrypt php-xml pdo-mysql php-curl php-zlib php-ftp php-gettext php-mcrypt
