    Dedicated to VPS Question

    Hi all. After many google searches, I tend to always end up here, so I decided to register & ask for opinions.

    Currently I (along with 3 others) lease a dedicated server from codero. While I have been extremely pleased, a couple of the guys are getting out of the hosting business. This leaves me with the task of finding a new home.

    After a lot of searching, I have come to the realization that there is no way I can continue to afford a dedicated server.

    I will be running mostly opensource CMS & MySQL. The largest site uses about 25Gb traffic per month and 20Gb disk space.

    Our current setup is:
    CPU --> I-5 2.6 GHz
    MEM --> 4 Gb
    Disk --> 226 Gb
    Paralles Plesk Panel.

    I do most of my maintenance via the command line. The only thing I use Plesk for, is the creation/administration of domains, emails, etc..

    Must haves:
    1. Linux
    2. Command Line access via ssh
    3. Complete control of software & updates
    4. Some front-end to create/maintain domains.

    I have been looking at the "Cloud Shards" OpenVZ 1024MB package for about $13 USD/month.

    Anything suggestions/pointer would be appreciated. While I am a decent linux admin & IT developer, I am a little uneasy about what hosting options to choose.

    thx

    you will get all of what asking for
    except it does not appear they support any Control panels
    4. Some front-end to create/maintain domains.
    So if you want plesk
    you will have to buy it from a distributor or directly from paralles and install it your self

    Is there any opensource option, that would do basically the same thing as Parallel's Plesk? What other options are out there that do not cost too much?

    thx

    Didn't both Kloxo and ISPConfig have some pretty egregious security holes? Been a while since I've heard anything about 'em, though.

    webmin definitely gets my vote if you're not wanting cPanel or Plesk.

    There is Kloxo MR, it's a fork. But I recommend webmin though.

    Not sure about Kloxo but ISPConfig, they always release patch for it like the recent version.

    Thanks, net. I knew I kept hearing of ISPConfig for a reason, but couldn't remember why. Glad that it was for GOOD reasons, though.

    thx for the replies. CloudShards offers a DirectAdmin license for $6.50/month, but will probably go with Webmin. I will install it on my linux box at home to familiarize myself with it.

    I'm looking at Cloudshards Budget VPS 1024, and their Standard VPS 1024. The only difference (besides price) is the SSD Cache. The Standard with SSD cache is almost double the price.

    If I am running a combination of Joomla/phpBB3/Coppermine on several different sites, will the SSD Cache make "that" much difference? There is not a extreme amount of traffic to my sites and the Db is not that large.

    thx again.

    @gtk+ be sure to take a look at Virtualmin GPL, it's based on Webmin but is more similar to Plesk in regards to virtual hosting management.

    How hard are your sites currently pushing the current server?

    It's hard to tell. Currently I am on a dedicated server with another extremely busy website. I think once I separate my sites from that one, it will not be pushing the server too hard at all.

    Currently I am using about 30 Gb disk space, and 12 Gb traffic a month.

    Well, after googling for other questions, I end up at ramnode's website.

    they seem to offer a better deal for VPS configurations, with SSD to boot.

    Guess I need to just make a decision & get on with it
