cpanel problems - please help!

Set up a new account using Cpanel.

~ Namesservers on the domain are pointing at the correct location.
~ A check on the DNS via checkdns.net reveals:

Found NS record: xxx, was resolved to IP by m.gtld-servers.net
Found NS record: yyy, was resolved to IP by m.gtld-servers.net
Domain has 2 DNS server(s)

DNS server xxx is alive and authoritative for domain 'xyz.com'
DNS server yyy is alive and authoritative for domain 'xyz.com'
2 server(s) are alive

All 2 your servers have the same zone version

HTTP server xyz.com answers on port 80
Mail server xyz.com answers on port 25
All MX are configured properly

So basically all is looking good.

But when I (or anyone else) try to access the site (browser message):

Unable to determine IP address from host name for xyz.com

The dnsserver returned:
Server Failure: The name server was unable to process this query.

This has happened to a few accounts since the cpanel update the other night. Anyone got any ideas ?

To me it all looks fine - all accounts set up before the cpanel update have no problems whatsoever and all are reachable via browser...

If I log in as r00t on the box, and do an nslookup, it returns SERVFAIL - if this is the case, why is checkdns giving correct information ?

I've done:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/named reload
rndc reload

this makes no difference.

My Server Tech geek is on vacation and I don't want to disturb him if I can help it - any and all help appreciated on this one. Many thanks !

ps, xxx and yyy are the IP addresses. xyz.com is the site in question. Names have been changed to protect the useless
