Would the mods mind?
I'm seeing so many hosts who don't even read the requester's post's. I just finished reading a post where someone requested asp hosting. A particular host responded with a CPanel offer, of "mysql/cgi/php"
Would the mods mind if I used the "report a post" link on them?Last edited by AcuNett; 04-06-2003 at 04:17 PM.

I think the mods would appreciate your help.
They can't be everywhere. There is no best host. There is only the host that's best for you.

If it's something minor, it'd be best to do some "community policing" and politely PM the member. Otherwise report it

So what would mods do if we report it? I remember several weeks there was an annoucement saying the member who replies hosting request with more or less than some percentages from the original request would get himself banned from the forum for 30 days or so.
Is that going to be true?

Ronny - please report it. We don't mind if you're not sure - report anyway and we'll let you know.
cyberservers - that is correct. 1 warning, then a 30-day ban.My 2 Cents.... (or is that 2.2 cents inc. GST...?)

MattF (I believe it was his) put a Sticky with the new advertising rules and basically he says to report link to all Cut & Paste, mismatched offers, 30% -/+ difference, etc....
What does one host say to the other? "(HostA) Want to go see a movie?" "(HostB) Sure, can your parents drive?"
I'm premium, and no, I did not have to pay $6 a month to figure that out.

Sorry for being too picky, but still have one more question to make sure.
What about request ASP but offer PHP, or request C-Panel but offer Ensim (or customized, in house control panel)? They are considered mismatched, but it might be within 70% range of the original request.

If the user says "I want Ensim but wouldn't mind other CPs if you don't have it" then no need to report.
If the user says "I want Ensim only" and hosts reply with another CP, then that is a mismatch and does not meet the user's request (and thus be reported). My 2 Cents.... (or is that 2.2 cents inc. GST...?)

I've been on a reporting spree lately. Since when did the mods start emailing you when the thread was moved too? I saw an email from moderators[AT]ebhostingtalk.com in my inbox the one time. I thought I was in trouble. But it was just allan informing me that the thread had been moved.

Me also. Saying "see our website" is not a proper reply.

Here is a great example:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...hreadid=130308
I made a comment and reported it just because I'm getting real irritated with some of the responses to requests. The poster clearly requested ASP support, but he responded in less than 5 minutes with a fairly obvious cut/paste of features.
Granted I don't really care because I rarely ever respond to a request because most requests I cannot fulfill, whether because of price or features. But I really think if that forum is going to stay it needs some strict moderation.

I haven't touched Requests lately, just started again today. I see about 95% of the posts violating rules. I'm going to report every single one of them because they take potentional sales away, not only from me, but from others....
I don't think mods will ban us if any of them are ok but reported anyways (if we explain why good enough).
Funny thing is, most of them have 0 posts and are from March/April 2003.What does one host say to the other? "(HostA) Want to go see a movie?" "(HostB) Sure, can your parents drive?"

I will, I don't reply to many either anymore, all want free or transfer for under 10-20 cents a gb. The ones I do reply to I see tons of copy and pasting, mismatched stuff, or they do not even read beyond space/transfer....
Aslong as I don't get yelled at for flooding the reports. j/kWhat does one host say to the other? "(HostA) Want to go see a movie?" "(HostB) Sure, can your parents drive?"

2) No contact from a mod about what (or why nothing) was done, or just saying that the post/thread/user is not in violation of any rule breaking.
I know you guys have your work cut out for you, by doing such a thankless job and there being so much of it to keep up with. I don't mind helping out by reporting what I feel pretty much to be a clear violation... with that said, it's a little disheartening to have it appear to fall on deaf ears.
