Anyone recommend me a good software/method to setup a VPN on a VPS server?
I need a setup that if the VPN/VPS should disconnect that my main connection doesn't take over.

use openvpn. you can setup it as you like.

PPTP takes less than 30 seconds to deploy. I cannot tell whether it is superior or not ( in security,etc) to OpenVPN but suits my needs.
See this script/tutorial.
EDIT :It is aimed aimed at Debian /Ubuntu with OpenVZ IIRC. Can be tweaked down though .
