search mysql

K, I have two problems, first, I would like to know how to search records in a database. I heard about FULLTEXT or something, but learned that if theirs a minimum it screws up or something. Is their a another way? By the way, I have two tables, one with usernames (thats what i want to search) and the other with products (i'd like to search for product names). Is it possible?

And my second, question rather, whats the service like at powweb.com (its like 8 bucks US)? Im thinking of switching hosting companies to them. What do you guys use?

of course its possible, what use would a database be if you couldn't search through it. if you are searching through lots of records for one row with specific text in a certain column, you will want to create an index on that column. this will speed searching tremendously.

to search through the user:

"SELECT * FROM usernames WHERE usernames="name_query";

and for porductsm the same thing, replacing "usernames" and "name_query" with "products" and "product_query".
"product_query" and "name_query" are the name and product you want to serach for.

As for hosting, I use a reseller's account my friend and i bought. I think it's $14 a month. i couldn't tell you who the server is, but we can host you for $5/month. includes mysql, php, c-panel, 200mb (maybe more) disk, around 3GB transfer. i'm not really sure exactly on the space sizes. i'll have to see how much we have available on the account. we accept paypal.
