Question

questions about godaddy & subdomains

Hello everyone. First off, excuse my ignorance, as I am rather new to the whole webhosting/domain name thing. My questions: I just registered a domain name with godaddy.com and it is my understanding now that subdomains will cost extra. Is this correct? If so, is this a common practice - to charge extra for subs? I suppose this is par for the course when you register a domain name at such a low price? Thanks in advance, everyone!

Sub-domains shouldn't cost much (if anything at all) with your HOST. So unless you are only using it as a redirect/forwarding (which is only good for amateurs/novice), you'll need some hosting for your domain anyway.

Man, consumers are getting greedier by the day...

"I want a domain and all DNS services, free email, free this, free that; all for under $10"

Sorry darkestdawn, it's a valid question, we do provide the sub-domain forwarding for free.

nameslave - thank you. I do have hosting that offers a certain number of subdomains at no cost.

bok - thank you for replying as well. I don't know if you are referring to me as greedy or not - but I'll assure you, I am far from it. I was simply wondering if subdomain forwarding was included or if it was an extra charge. If it was extra, I would not be entirely suprised or disappointed, as the domain name registration was very inexpensive. Anyhow though, you have answered my question and it seems as though I was misinformed. Thanks again, bok!

darkestdawn, thanks and yes the sub-domain forwarding is free. Make sure your domain is parked with Go Daddy and then from the DCC (Domain Control Center) use the drop down box to navigate to Sub-Domains. Plug in your SD and the forwarded address...

Where did you hear this information? We do have Advanced DNS which is what, i'm sure, you're referring to.
