Red Hat Linux 9 - Will be out at the end of the month

Just got an e-mail from RedHat:

Beginning March 31st, paid subscribers to Red Hat Network will have access to Red Hat Linux 9 ISOs - a full week before retail store and Red Hat FTP availability.

-------
Speaking of that, I may be wrong, but I get the feel that lately many companies are upping their soft wear version too soon, with only a few changes/bug fixes. (The wonder world of marketing I guess).

Could probably be. Redhat 8 was launched not too long ago and probably has not been considered a proven solution and now Redhat 9 is coming. The time frame is too short and they are killing version 8 ? True, it is probably just a marketing ploy to gain more income through product launches.

i think we're going to have to see "Redhat ME (more errors)" & "Redhat 2000" before we see "Redhat XP" or "Redhat .NET"

Never even seen a copy of version 8 and they're going to 9 now... not a good idea.

I been using Red Hat 8.0 since it came out, I have to say, for a .0 version it's quite good, actually it is quite good by any standards (what did you found incompatible Daniel ?)

I was testing 8.1, so far it looked good, but haven't had as much time as I woudl like to dedicate to it. We all know 8.1 was to come next month, that was no suprise, they announce their 18 month plan about a month ago, and it mentioned the next release, what it's a REAL suprise is the release # .. 9.0 ?? .. this is basically 8.1 .. why are they callign it 9.0 is beyond me.

I do not like RH, but it seems like version 9 has ACL stuff built in, which itself is almost reason enough to up the major version number. The other reason seems to be marketing ploy to get the companies move to the Advanced Server version that costs real money, but is much more conservative with major realeases and gives 3 or 5 years of support (not sure about this one)
