    Is BlueVM Over Selling?

Today I helped a guy install VNC server and gnome desktop On a blueVM VPS server with 1gb/2gb VPS after his install was done he looked and was using 1.9gb of mem this did not seem right too me so I did the same install as he did on my RamNode VPS witch is also 1gb with 1gb vswap after my install I was using 400-500mb of mem.

On top of VNC and Gnome running I also have a full webserver with mail and mysql php and 22 teamspeak servers.

here are screen shots of my server running this
    http://puu.sh/2qv5U
    http://puu.sh/2quVE
    http://puu.sh/2quYD

And his VPS from BlueVM only running VNC and Gnome
    http://puu.sh/2qw7F

If anyone is looking for a good VPS go to Ramnode the Staff there cares and would never over sell also there IRC CH is full of very helpful people.

I understand I maybe a new user to this forum. But i had to post this because what they are doing is not right.

Because the actual VM is using more RAM generally doesn't mean they're over selling.

Yep that's it, you can clearly see that in the first screen cap. 776M used, 358M cached = ~1.1G

You showed a screenshot of RamNode's SolusVM... not BlueVM's. For one, the node name says "ATLCVZ7" which is how RamNode structures their plans (CVZ and SVZ accordingly) and names their nodes. Secondly, the hostname resolves to a RamNode IP.

Totally irrelevant with BlueVM, every server caches differently depending on processes and how active the server is. Kindly be informed with how Linux works before accusing any provider of overloading their memory.

accusing any provider of overloading their memory..?

I posted this like a question not saying they are as you can see my the title it says "Is BlueVM over selling"

I posted this because it's not right and makes zero sense.
But at the end of the day you get what you pay for and if its too cheap well it's probably cheap and you should stay away from it.

EVERY web hosting company in the space (as well as utility) is overselling. Anyone telling you otherwise is fodder.

There is a difference between over-selling (effective resource management) and over-loading however.

I'm not sure if this is true across their entire line, but my OpenVZ VPS with BlueVM is with HyperVM on the older 2.6.18 kernel. My understanding is that 2.6.18 has wonkier memory accounting compared to 2.6.32 (which, IIRC, RamNode uses): two identical sets of processes across both boxes would result in higher memory usage on 2.6.18.

Not anything to do with overselling or overloading, then, just an idiosyncrasy. And certainly not malicious or "not right."

I have a VPS with BlueVM as well and the performance has been despicable. I have their biggest OpenVZ plan (costed me only $6.25/month for 2GB RAM (burstable to 4GB) and 4 CPU cores) and I had to move nodes 3 times before I got a VPS which could load the single static page on it in less than 5 second (which is much slower than many free hosting companies I've used). They are cheap but are slow and have a 24+ hour downtime approx. every month. Their nodes must be overloaded to hell.
