Are there Any Legit Offshore VPS Hosts?

I need a LEGIT, RELIABLE and NON over priced VPS host that will protect my privacy.

I will be using it for adult content. (nothing illegal like child porn, beastiality, scat , etc.)

Are there any here any users can vouch for?

I'm using Racksrv (UK): pretty good, no down time so far for the 1st month
I also have a VPS with Vodien (Singapore): One of the best in terms of speed and uptime.

Hey thanks for your feedback do you know what the laws are regarding privacy in Singapore and the US?

The UK is a definite no go in that regard.

Thanks again!

You are seeking a "high risk" hosting solution essentially.

While they do exist, you are typically going to have 1 of 2 scenarios. One, you're going to pay through the nose for it. Assuming they are 100% LEGIT as this is a high risk business model. Or secondary, you are going to find those fly-by-nights who are cheap and will be less reliable, but can provide you some sort of hosting service of this kind for pennies and a window of time before they are closed down.

With the issues involved in those sort of enterprise, you're going to be at the mercy of many factors. Assuming you are not doing anything nefarious, that doesn't mean your neighbors at the same host are not. Which leaves you open to law enforcement, spamhaus, the bandwidth providers, the originating data center, merchant accounts or payment processors getting lost, and so forth. Many different things that can essentially knock your "bullet proof host" offline.

In short, there a number of things that could knock you offline. I would think any host catering to these sort of clients pro-actively are always going to be some level of unstable depending on how much of the infrastructure they actually own.

Hmmm... so the 'moral of the story' is basically straighten up and fly right cause basically sooner or later time will run out on this sort of thing (one way or another)?

I agree to some extent, this however is intended to be a short term project.

I guess what I am trying to tell you is the A-B-C's of the hosting business in regards to the problem you're having with what you seek in the case of a 'bullet proof' solution. In short, they will always be unstable in some way as they have many different issues to overcome (payment processing, abuse, haus, network backbone, etc.).

I have yet to see any bullet proof host stay in business more than a few years. There is a reason for that I am sure. You get a lot of crying in the beer on forums when these guys go down, and it's almost always because of things already mentioned. As I said previously, assuming you are not doing anything maliciously nefarious yourself, that doesn't mean your neighbors are not. I doubt an ISP of this sort is separating the DMCA bad, from the really nasty stuff that gets them put out of business.

It seems those ISP's are set up like a money grab. Run as hard and fast as you can before getting shut down.

Canada does not have DMCA and many legit providers here. Be sure to research their ToS and see if they allow whatever it is you're doing.

Assuming you are refering to porn, I think you'll be okay as long as you have some kind of proof on file those involved in the content are of legal age.

If its pirated content, you are at the mercy of your host. They usually don't allow it regardless of the DMCA because, well, its just frowned upon and is usually in their ToS/ToU.

Sounds like you are going to set up a tube site. There are plenty of them out there. Find a tube site that you like, which is small and do some research online to see what host they are using.

You might want to also consider registering for DMCA protection at the US Copyright office. It's only $135 and it will give you the protection from people wanting to sue you.

Otherwise, host in Canada. There laws are different then the US laws and they have no DMCA.

Lastly, look for host which require the DMCA request to be filed in writing only. Those hosts which offer an abuse@ email address are less tolerant to dealing with DMCA requests. It also forces the party which is requesting the take-down to physically write up and mail in the request which can be a pain in the...

Awesome feedback dude

I hadn't actually considered Canada seeing that they are so friendly with the US.

I wonder what would happen if someone from the US tried to get content taken down from a server in Canada?

Not that i'll have any content that soooooo bad to begin with, i'm just trying to protect my self in the event there's anycrap.

Yes it's true I will have something similar to a tubesite. More like a cross between a tube and a blog (amateur content)

In most cases all of the content will be user consented.

Thanks again

Hosting in Canada is much better then US as far as copyright protection is concerned. But be mindful, Canada has copyright laws also. They have to be followed just like in the US.

OVH.com might be a great place to start. Better than great pricing. Silly great pricing!

If you are running a user submitted site, and you want to host in the US, then I would just register at the copyright office. You aren't producing the content and are just providing a service. As long as you take down the users content when asked too you will be protected from litigation.

You might want to check out the legal section of the site below. It has some of the best adult lawyers writing for the site. The site is called Xbiz, sorry I can't link to the site because linking to any adult site on WHT is against the rules. But it's an informational site about the industry.

The would probably use a DMCA type request. Even though a DMCA request is based in the US, it has become kind of a standard way of doing things. Even foreign tube sites have DMCA links on their sites.

It's important to note: Unless you get big... thousands or millions of people hitting your site, you aren't going to get takedown notices. Once you get big, if you do, is when you are going to get the attention of Trolls. But once that happens you have have the money to hire a lawyer to handle the DMCA requests which is a strong force for both the company trying to take down the content and the host which you are paying.

Check out this lawyer... he is the best in the business and his site will give you all the legal information about adult you ever wanted to know.

Everything you ever wanted to know about the law and porn!

For a reliable and good host that will answer all of your needs, it's going to cost a bit more than average.
I think it's worth it.

High uptime, Good performance and Quality support - none of these come cheap.

Good luck!
