webDAV

As far as I have been able to find, no hosts offer webDAV, which would be wonderfully convenient. Has anyone here found hosts which run mod_dav or some other webdav server?

PS: for those who don't know, webdav is "Web based distributed authoring and versioning" and basically allows file manipulation (reading/writing) over HTTP. It's convenient because it is integrated into windows so you can mount your site as a network drive and then use any tools you normally use to read/write directly to it.

PPS: I'll ask in the web hosting requests forum later, just wanted to get a feeling for whether there is a reason people don't support it, etc.

Matt

Hosts running Cpanel may offer webDav. It's one of the options available when they compile Apache. You may just want to ask them. Perhaps they aren't sure what they are running?

If you install FrontPage extensions, WebDav should work on a Unix box

WebDav is available as a mod to Apache, and if you have Cpanel, they will install it... so by default, most hosts on Cpanel should already be supporting it (whether knowingly or not)

It looks as though webdav is off by default in cpanel?

rochen, I didn't understand your post. WebDAV and frontpage extensions are different...

Well, when I did my compile I enabled webDAV. Try asking your host to install the mod for it perhaps? I am sure most will do it for you if there's not too much of an effort, and it's popular enough.
