BlueDomino Unlimited

I just had a live chat sessionwith BlueDomino about Their Unlimited Bandwidth package for 34.95 per month

Enjoy! Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Mario'
Mario: Welcome to Web Hosting Tech Support. How can I help you?
you: Hi,
Mario: hello
you: I have a band with mp3s, ad we have a lot of downloads
you: with the movies and mp3s we use about 500 gigs a month. You have a package advetised at 34.95 is this the one for me?
you: you say unlimited
you: just checking
you: Hello?
Mario: As for MP3's we do not really suppport or allow these unless you are able to supply the copy writen matriel needed to

prove the music is orginally yours.
Mario: to do so you will need to send and meail to our admin dept at
you: Oh yeah we can
Mario: admin@yourwebhosting.com
Mario: great
you: so as long as we can provide this you will host us?
Mario: then you can send the email to admin@yourwebhosting.com
Mario: yes. once yousend that email to our amdin they will respond with letting you know if we can or not support your mp3's
you: I'll signup and then send the list off of songs since we have rights to all of them
Mario: as for the 500 gigs
Mario: are you reffering transfer correct?
Mario: not storage
you: yes bandwith but we will eventually use more space but you offer a gig
Mario: as for future refference we do not support any streaming, be i audio or video
you: Ok, I'll have them download the files so they don;t stream
Mario: one moment please as I double check with the band with for you
you: Can I just use FTP
Mario: to make sure that we willl support this for you
Mario: one momeent please
Mario: yes you can use FTP
Mario: I am double checking for you to see if we can handle your 500 gigs of transfer a month
you: Why do you need to check, your site says unlimited
Mario: As is stated on the website
Mario: it is unlimited on a shared server
you: What would I be on a dedicatd?
you: Hello?
you: you still there?
Mario: Actually I am sorry though we will not be able to support this amount of traffic per month. We offer shared hosting

and the amount of transfer you are requesting would be better suited for a dedicated server , which we do not offer.
you: But your 34.95 is shared hosting correct?
you: I'm confused here
Mario: yes it is shared hosting
Mario: you are requesting transfer of 500gigs
you: but you offer unlimited right on yoru web page for shared hosting 34.95
Mario: which we would not be able to support
Mario: as we are on shared hosting
Mario: as is stated unlimited on a shared server
you: How come it says unlimited on yoru web site?
Mario: and at any time if your traffic would bog down the systemt then we would ask that you look into a dedicatedsystem
you: Than how come you and others offer unlimited?
Mario: it says umilited on a "shared" server
Mario: as is stated
Mario: it states
Mario: unlimited on a "shared" server
you: If you know in advance this can be a problem, why offer it. the 34.95 is a shard server. You couldn;t offer that 34.95

price for dedicated
you: You guys are over-selling yoru product which is really unfair
you: Nice place
Mario: I do apologize for any missunderstanding
you: How do you expect to build business relationships if you start off lying?
you: Not good
Mario: though this is stated clearly on the site that we offer shared hosting. We do not offer dedicated. It does not list

this on the site that we offer dedicated.
you: There is no misunderstanding, your web site tells the story
Mario: It is also stated on the site that we offer unlimited transfer on a shared hosting platform
you: What is the 34.95 shared?
Mario: I would recommend to further read as to what the site offers as is stated there
you: I have
Mario: that at any time being that we are on shared servers
you: tell me? is the 34.95 shared or dedicated?
Mario: This would be shared
Mario: as is stated on the website
you: Correct and you offer unlimited
you: I am really upset at this
Mario: » Data Transfer or Bandwidth
Mario:
Mario: Bluedomino Ultimate Accounts do not have a limit on Data Transfer. You can have an endless stream of visitors and not

be charged for extra Data Transfer. (Note: Exceptions apply to very high-traffic or bandwidth intensive sites)
Mario:
Mario: Bluedomino Extreme Accounts can have 20 GB of Data Transfer. This is more than enough for a site with heavy traffic.

(Note: Exceptions apply to very high-traffic or bandwidth intensive sites)
you: I don;t see that on the feature list. I see
Mario: as it notes there Exceptions apply to very high-traffic or bandwith intensive sites
you: » $300 of CoffeeCup Website Software » No Setup Fees » 1 GB Storage Space » Unlimited Bandwidth » Unlimited Email

Accounts » Unlimited Email Autoresponders, Forwards, Etc... » Web Based Account Admin » PHP, Perl, MySQL, Personal CGI-Bin »

Webmail, Graphical Stats, Weekly Backups » Microsoft FrontPage Extensions (optional) » One Hour Hosting Account Setup » and

Mario: You will fin this if you click on the ultimate hosting plan
Mario: then click on the link that is highlited for you in red " unlimited bandwith "
Mario: you will see this there
you: Let me look
you: so why say umlimited! why not 20 gigs like you just said the fine print says?
you: I see it now but that is deceving
you: Sorry but you guys are overselling yoru product. Shame on you!
you: I should have known
you: I guess that's why I askd before signing up
Mario: Was there any further questions you have that I may assist you with ?
you: You'd be charging me for extra bandwidth
you: Yes
you: How come you guys fake people out with that plan? Most people wouldn't click on that bandwidth link. Whay? Because the

first level says unlimited. There would be no reason to further investigate
Mario: I am sorrythough no, we do not charge extra bandwith. we would recommend that you look for dedicated hosting
Mario: I so apologize for any missunderstanding, though I am attempting to assist you and inform you that the amount of

transer that youare requesting
Mario: we would not be able to support
Mario: you will need to look for a hosting company that provided a dedicated server
Mario: which we do not offer
you: Ok but do you think you should change the unlimited part of yoru web site then?
you: just put 20 gigs up front?
you: That would have saved us a lot of time and hasstle
you: I have to go through this with everyone that offers unlimited. Just to find out it really cant happen
you: This is a big wast of time for everyone
you: You guys are not being truthfull you do know that!
Mario: This is all stated on the website
you: I know its all on the website of being untruthful
Mario: as in the links that i have provided you
you: That is my point
you: I think I'll take this to the BBB
Mario: You do have this right. though as is stated on the website we do state as to what we do offer.
Mario: As i have provide the links for you on this information.
you: You cant say unlimited for a package and then on a 3rd level link have another story of 20 gigs. That is deceving. If

both links said either 20 gigs or if both links said unlimited the wouldn;t be a problem. Does that make sense to you?
you: Yes or no?
Mario: Again I do apologize for any missunderstanding, though what we do offer is listed on our site.
Mario: Was there any further questions I may assist you with?
you: YO

Your chat seemed like a lot of fun, so I had to do it myself.

Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Matt'
you: Hello
Matt: Hello, how may I help you?
you: I have some presales questions
Matt: ok
you: On your site it says that Bluedomino Ultimate Accounts are not limited on Data Transfer, but then it says there are exceptions
you: what are those exceptions?
you: Hello?
Matt: Basically, if the data transfer on your site starts interfering with the other customers, we will ask you to seek dedicated hosting for your site.
you: so it isn't really unlimited
you: there are limits
you: Hello?
you: Is anyone there?
Matt: please give me some time to type out the answer
you: k
Matt: there aren't any preset limits, the admin just monitor the server and if the load your site gives
Matt: is causing problems with others, they will contact you
you: But there are limits, correct?
Matt: it is usually somewhere between 60-70 gigs
Matt: yes
you: Okay, so it isn't unlimited?
you: Why do you lie on your site?
you: You claim to offer unlimited bandwidth but don't
you: I'm sorry, but I have no choice but to report you to the BBB
Matt: It is unlimited until it starts interfearing with others
you: But does it say that on the site? No, no it doesn't
Matt: we don't limit you with any bandwith throtling
you: Regardless; there are limits
Matt: Is there anything else I can assist you with?
you: Yes, why is it that you have false advertising?
you: Why don't you just say 60gb-70gb on your site?
Matt: I have already explained what unlimited means. Because, it could be that 59.7 gigs is too high, or 80 gigs is fine, depending on the server you are on.
you: So there are limits, and the limits aren't even told to your customers? For all they know, you could take down their site while they're sleeping in bed?
you: Sounds like a life of fear, one that I am not interested in. I am taking my business elsewhere.

It's 2 different persons.... so it's not surprising...and I am sure they get that question a lot.

Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Bralynn'
you: Hello
Bralynn: Welcome to Web Hosting Tech Support. How can I help you?
you: I want to host a software website.
you: We make open source software and we will be running our download from our website.
you: On your site it says unlimited, is this true?
you: hello?
Bralynn: One moment please.
Bralynn: The bandwidth is unlimited, correct.
you: We pushed about 20mbit at our previous but they had limits. This is why I was looking at your plan.
Bralynn: 20 Megabytes per month?
you: 20 megabit per second
you: They told us it would cost thousands of dollars but you guys give unlimited for very little a month. cool deal
Bralynn: Bandwidth=Speed, which is unlimited. We don't control how fast your transfers from our servers are.
Bralynn: Transfer Rate=Amount of data transferred. Also unlimited.
you: Well I mean we will prob be pushing close to a terabyte.
you: a month
you: we will need atleast a dedicated DS-3 for our account.
Bralynn: One moment please.
you: Hello?
Bralynn: Try rackspace.com.
Bralynn: They would be better suited for your needs.
Bralynn: They host our servers.
Bralynn: You will want dedicated hosting, not shared.
you: I don't need a dedicated server.
Bralynn: Okay, thats fine, just a suggestion.
Bralynn: But rackspace.com would better suit your needs here.
you: So you guys don't have unlimited bandwidth?
you: I don't see why you are recommending me to a different company.
Bralynn: We do offer unlimited, within the scopes of shared webhosting.
you: What does that mean?
you: I just want unlimited bandwidth
you: My software gets downloaded a lot.
you: But the program is pretty small so I don't need a dedicated server with a lot of web space.
you: I just need a lot of transfer.
Bralynn: Unlimited, to the point of it causing issues with our server. It is shared hosting, which means you share a server with other customers. If one customer is causing an issue on a server by doing extreme amounts of transfers at a constant rate, we may not allow it.
Bralynn: Virtually Unlimited is the term I would say.
you: Something fishy is going on. You say you offer unlimited bandwidth but you are lying to me.
you: That is not unlimited.
you: Why don't you just put a limit on your site and avoid the whole issue?
Bralynn: When we say unlimited e-mails, that doesn't mean that someone could have 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 e-mails with us.
Bralynn: Same with bandwidth, its virtually unlimited.
you: You are tricking people
Bralynn: If your bandwidth started causing issues on the server, we may have to do something.
you: Are you talking about CPU usage or bandwidth usage?
Bralynn: Bandwidth.
you: How would bandwidth cause a problem on the server?
you: I'm talking about the amount of data I can push through your line.
Bralynn: Because it is shared bandwidth.
you: So how much bandwidth do you give to one server and how many people are on that server?
you: What you are saying is that there are limits
you: But on your site it says UNLIMITED
you: LIMITLESS
Bralynn: http://www.bluedomino.com/support/faq/faq_01.shtml
Bralynn: Unlimited Bandwidth ?
Bralynn: Unlimited Bandwidth means we don't charge you for the amount of traffic you get at your website.
Bralynn: If you get 100 visitors a month, or if you get 1,000,000 visitors a month, we don't charge you any extra fees. You can have an unlimited number of visitors to your site without worrying about extra charges.
Bralynn: That is what that means.
you: That is not the definition of unlimited.
Bralynn: That is our definition, sorry you disagree.
you: un·lim·it·ed ( P ) Pronunciation Key (n-lm-td) adj. Having no restrictions or controls: an unlimited travel ticket. Having or seeming to have no boundaries; infinite: an unlimited horizon. Without qualification or exception; absolute: unlimited self-confidence.
you: So do you have a bluedomino dictionary over there?
Bralynn: I've explained what we mean by that, I do not wish to continue debating my explanation. Is there any other way I can help you?
you: No, you guys really suck.
you: I wouldn't signup IF YOU PAID ME!
Bralynn: Take care!

Almost two years ago before we started offering our clients hosting we put a client on bluedomino. I had a similiar conversation with them regarding their purported unlimited bandwidth. During which they admitted that they look at any site using more than 5GB per month as exceeding the systems resources. Then they went into that whole spiel about how other accounts are affected and it could be more or less bandwidth allowed that month blah blah blah.

Bottom line is that each box coming out of rackspace or whoever they use has a defined amount of bandwidth associated with it. Bluedomino will sell space on the box unitl it is all used up and adjust the amount of bandwidth each customer is allowed to use based on bandwidth left (unused) that month, not what it came with. Bottom line I took that customer off their box.

Furthermore they could make that statemment legal if they simply put a * and details behind the word/instance of bandwidth

As much as they shouldn't be advertising unlimited, I don't think it's very nice to abuse their sales staff who probably are just wage earners. What would you feel if someone come and did it to you (perhaps on some other issues)?
