two computers one IP unable to access WHT and Google x_x

I have Windows ME on my laptop and Windows XP on my desktop. Both are set up to be proxy servers for my PPPOE DSL service (depending on whichever I dial up on).

When my DSL ISP is connected via my XP Desktop, I can access this forum and every other site fine. But for some reason my roommate can't access her Hotmail account (it causes an error in the proxy) If I switch to my laptop, I can no longer access WHT or Google although on command line I can ping and tracert with no drops. But oddly enough, my roomie can use her hotmail account just fine.

This problem only started yesterday, before I could access WHT and Google through my laptop with no problem, but there were other sites that I could only access through my desktop like ActiveState.Com >_<

Is there something funky with ME <--no pun intended >_<

Why can't I access WHT anymore on my laptop?

~cries~

Are you using a simple crossover cable? or do you have a hub?

I'm using a hub (buffalo petit switch) I'm on my desktop now and can access WHT fine. I can also access it via proxy on my laptop. I just can't access WHT or Google if I connect to my ISP via laptop.

Ok, my home ISP allows me to dial up and get as many IP address for however many computers dial in. Is there a reason your using the computers as a proxy? If you are using a switch, your ISP should give out 1 ip address for each time they login, I simply login with my username on all my computers and they all get differant IP address's assigned to them.

Mine doesn't. I am only assigned one dynamic IP, so I have to use a proxy server to connect my computers and my roommate's computer to the internet. x_x

While I have had this problem with other websites before, I've never had this problem before with WHT or google... and that scares me cuz google is my life blood search engine and WHT is the only non-fandom related forum I visit.

Buy a router (probably the easiest and best solution) or setup the desktop as the primary proxy and have the laptop always routing through the desktop?

Something may have changed with your ISP. I know ours used to state 1 dynamic ip when when we could pull as many as we needed, but later, they cracked down and only 1 of the computers on our LAN could access the internet hense we bought a router and solved the problem.

I dont think he wants to go out and buy any additional hardware, but IF he did go out and buy a router, he would not need a proxy to be ran on either machine
