    Centos 5 Kernel Question

    Hi,

I have centos 5.8 installed, its come to my attention that there are kernel new versions available. so i first get my kernel version by run uname -r and i got this "2.6.18-308.24.1.el5PAE".

i found the kernel here: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/

you can see there are 3.0 as well 3.0x available. so should i install new kernel ? or its not required ?

i asked this because i want to install grsecurity.

    please advise.

i hva recommend you to do not update or install new kernel.
centos developer will update it if it needed,
i have contact with them several times, then decide to be on 2.6 and omly update their patch, because kernel 2.6.xxx which is available is secure and stable,

CentOS is an enterprise linux distro (A free clone of RHEL). They stick with the same version of software throughout the lifecycle of the OS, only adding minor new features, security fixes and bugfixes.

I would suggest using CentOS 6 on a new server as 2.6.18 is really starting to show it's age now and there are substancial performance gains available in newer kernels.
