I would recommend you to use 32 bit operating system since you are going to have 512 MB RAM in your VPS.

+1 for 32 Bit. Considering you have 512MB RAM, there is no need to run 64 Bit unless a certain application you are looking to run requires it. 32 Bit also consumes less of a memory footprint leaving you with more resources for your apps.

OpenVZ is a little faster then Xen if setup correctly and uses less resources. I would recommed OpenVZ over Xen.

It sounds about right but you could likely get away with 256MB depending upon traffic levels, etc
The thing is with VPSes is that you can upgrade and downgrade within a moments notice so for instance if you notice your Ram history is pretty low then you could downgrade after acouple of months or so.
