my budget will be $3-$6 per month

Your best option is to get a small VPS from lowendbox.com and start learning yourself.

There are TONS of articles. Get an unmanaged VPS, try to do things yourself, if something breaks reinstall the VPS.

With your budget you will most likely get OpenVZ.

If you just want a machine to play with it doesnt really matter. openvz would do just fine and is generally cheaper.

    No problem.

Also with your budget openVZ should be your choice.

It is free. I have one and i recommend to all ppl that want to learn.
It is rather slow but you dont need to move fast, right ?

Can you specify the companies that these belong to? We want you to choose a reliable company. I know this is only for learning purposes, but you still dont want it to be constantly down.

to learn you need a small one as wont be much load, just the services.
So try the links i gave you, first one is linking to a free VPS with 128 MB.

Make sure you get enough RAM to run any programs you might want to try out. 128MB is good for a lot of things, but not I would go for something bigger if you're going to be learning and testing.

Unless, of course, your goal is to learn how to run a very minimized VPS!
