That would be ok. In all fairness though, if the quota-based host uses the same "hidden limits" to prevent usage of advertised quota, that too should be similarly stated on plan page.
However, I would silently concede your one-sided requirement for the permission to advertise. This would at least allow the savvy wht marketplace to help decide what is desired in a host.

My $.002...
First -- If you're letting this one online forum stifle your business, innovation, etc (because of this rule or any other rule they have), find a new forum to frequent and advertise elsewhere...diversify... there are plenty of unlimited hosts operating successful businesses and most don't even bother fielding a rep here.
Unlimited space - I've personally never been a fan of this, but Karl Z said it pretty well a few posts back - it is much easier, with the technology available now, to offer the customer an unlimited experience, just like cellular telephone providers, Olive Garden, etc.
With that said, a well intentioned company that has the resources can properly execute this strategy, but offering it to the masses will likely just result in every 10 year old exploding the ad forums with these offers and not properly managing the service. With that said, I can understand the resistance by those who have the responsibility to clean up the mess here on WHT.
Unlimited/Unmetered bandwidth - Like with unlimited space, I've never been a fan of the unlimited bandwidth terminology. On the other hand, I think it's perfectly fine to offer unmetered bandwidth (with a listed port speed).
Lifetime hosting plans - This just screams terrible idea.
I can certainly understand the desire to cater to a large number of consumers who think they need unlimited or feel they are getting the shaft if they aren't getting unlimited. There is a reason why HG switched to unlimited a few years back, it certainly is attractive marketing.
With that said, I think WHT will eventually relax their rules, but don't let it stop you from innovating or conducting business in the meantime, IMO.

Sorry to pop in a bit after the conversation has died, but when I saw this thread, a thought popped into my head. As Karl pointed out, it is definitely possible to offer an unlimited hosting experience.
What if WHT were to allow only specific hosts with a strict set of rules to advertise "unlimited"? Hosts would be required to prove they have an infrastructure that would allow unlimited hosting, WHT could charge a fee so as to stop false requests. If a host were "approved", they would be required to list all limitations on their hosting plan(s).

Please forgive me for digging this topic up yet again. I bumped this thread instead of starting a new one because it seems like WHT would rather this discussion be contained in one space and not re-started a million times.
As a host who offers unlimited hosting - I have to step in and give my own two cents.
For starters, with respect to the intentions of WHT and all of moderators and admins who want to keep the advertising free from scammers and overnight basement startups - I applaud you. Our industry is full of junk hosting providers who are out to take a dime from the unsuspecting/unknowing victim.
That being said, grouping all unlimited hosting providers and hosting plans into a category and calling them all scams is no different than saying all car dealerships are frauds. Have we all had a crappy experience at a car dealership? Heck ya. Are they all frauds? Heck no.
You can make whatever argument you want about the pros/cons of unlimited hosting - the fact of the matter is a very large percentage of hosts offer unlimited plans of some sort. Many of us did not come by the decision lightly - and for many of the same reasons stated in this thread. At the end of the day, it's a business decision. After we went through an agonizing internal discussion about whether or not to offer unlimited hosting (with some of our own employees very much against it) we decided to try it. It immediately had a huge (positive) impact in our conversions and bottom line.
So do we get a few angry customers because we suspend them for hosting 2TB of MP3 files? Yes. Would they still have gotten suspended under the limited plans we used to offer? Yes.
Is this argument going to go away? No - and that's exactly why WHT should allow the posting of unlimited plans.
Unlimited hosting plans are not going to go away - and as many people have stated, with the ever decreasing price and increasing capacity of storage, it will probably only continue to swing in the favor of MUCH larger or unlimited plans as our industry continues to evolve.
If you're going to throw all unlimited accounts into a box, well... let's just throw them into a box and be done with it. The solution is simple - just like WHT has set up different advertising forums for Shared/Reseller/VPS/etc... all that has to be done is set up another forum for unlimited hosting accounts. Throw up a sticky message with a big disclaimer "THESE ARE UNLIMITED ACCOUNTS. THEY PROBABLY STILL HAVE LIMITS. READ THE TOS AND BUYER BEWARE!"
When it comes down to it, the market is going to dictate the outcome. There are plenty of limited providers on here who are scams and/or started their business yesterday. Under the existing rules I could go into the VPS forum and advertise a 4GB RAM / 20TB SSD / 500TB transfer VPS for $1.50/month and be within the rules of the forum. Clearly that would be a scam - but there's no rule saying I can't offer that type of VPS. Yet, unlimited shared hosting plans - which are offered by many very reputable companies - are strictly banned. To me, that's highly illogical and screams more of "let's stifle the competition" than it does "let's prevent scammer companies from posting."
Nobody is forcing unlimited on anyone. If you think unlimited plans are junk and that your limited plan is better - prove it in your advertising. It's up to you to state your value as compared to the competition. Right now on WHT, us unlimited providers aren't even given that chance.

If unlimited offers required another metric - CPU usage - I could see it being feasible to do.

Lifetime hosting is a SCAM, scratch that.
But unlimited, it should absolutely be allowed. I go in the shared offers section and see hosts offering ridiculously high amounts of storage and bandwidth at ridiculously low prices. For all intents and purposes, it is unlimited. There is no logical reason to allow this but place a restriction on the word "unlimited".
I'd rather be on HostGator than any kiddy host offering 500GB for $2 a month.
If WHT wants to protect its visitor base from crappy oversold hosting, it's going to have to do a hell of a lot more than regulate semantics.
And as was pointed out, the restriction these days is CPU and disk IO.
If WHT wants to go this route, they need to do it for everyone, or it's pointless.
I see no reason to thoroughly vet an "unlimited" hosting provider yet keep the status quo for the companies that throw up offers of 500GB for $2 a month.
