You need to take time to understand how the Google Adwords works. Otehrwise you'd get poor results. Adwords is only an option, you could control only if you put high bids on Managed placements. Otherwise the Google ad server would start distributing your ads automatically. My suugestion is to start with high bids to get a good exposure in the paid sections of the Search engine results pages. The bids for the network placements should be lower.
I also suggest you to search and find some media, review, blog and other type of websites relevant to your business area. They'd provide more targeted traffic.

If you haven't posted a budget or traffic requirement.
If you've never used PPC before I would recommend you start with MSN adCenter (MSN and Yahoo), then move onto Facebook and then adwords. Simply because adwords is the most expensive and strict with ad guidelines. And Facebook not the easiest to start with.
Are you going to manage the campaign yourself?

Try adwords first, now yahoo got less traffic than before, so it's kind of hard to manage your campaign.

AdWords will likely garner the best results, but it can get expensive as the sheer volume of searches on high-ranking keywords will get lots of clicks, particularly if your bids place your adverts on the first page.
It is not too difficult to manage an AdWords campaign, just be sure to keep an eye on it and adjust as necessary. It is sometimes good to start with long-tail keywords to begin, to limit your spend while you come up with adjusted max bid levels and general keyword strategy. You want to maximise your conversion rate in line with the cost of running your campaign - this can take some time to fine tune.
If you want to compete for the top keywords in the travel industry, be prepared to pay a lot of money for each click.
Alternatively, look at a service like Trada, a crowd-source service which can manage your campaign for you, for a cut of each action of course.

Taking the advantage of the opportunity, i'd like to suggest blog commenting.
You can also create a forum, where your clients can discuss everything they want. moreover, you can also do forum posting.
I hope these methods will help you to increase traffic.

I suggest you yo avoid promotion through PPC. Find out something more realistic and solid. from my sense forum posting, blog posting, article submission, social media marketing is more effective than PPC.

I'm always amazed at the amount of bad advice found in the WHT SEO forums.
If you want your travel site to be used, it cannot be regurgitated stuff already found on better established travel sites. The key to SEO is not backlinks or ads, but the content of the site that brings people to it. If you don't have good content, you don't have a quality site. All you have is noise/spam.

Here is a good link that gives you various pros and cons for both. Having said that, i feel Adwords is still by far the best choice
