How to do web site transfer via remote ftp without cPanel

I need to know that how to do web site transfer(changing hosts)via remote ftp in VPS which don't have cPanel/WHM. Assume that I have root access for both unmanaged VPS of the both hosts.

Is this possible?
If yes, how can I do this, if the new host do not do web site migrations for me?
Is there a limit of maximum file size to be transferred?

You can either compress web contents into single file and download using FTP, or use FTP in combination with wget

For example

wget -r -l 99 ftp://username:pass@hostname.

use ftp user and pass.

I beleive you want to transfer domain from one host to another which doesn't have any control panel. If so you will have to do complete transfer manually.

1) Create domain in new host
2) Download web contents from remote host to new hosts document root.
From document root use command in my previuos reply to download contents.
3) After you verify everything is fine with new host, update DNS records to point your domain to new host.

If this is not what you meant, let me know what exactly you want to do.

If you have the shell access in any of these hosts, you may use lftp and 'mirror' to transfer the data.

How to do this?

I mean the commands that I need to do it.

If you can give me a link to a online reference it would be more helpful.

One of the more reliable method I use to download contents from remote host is, the command below.

wget -r -l 99 ftp://username:pass@hostname.

I dont have any reference otherthan wget man page.

you can also google "wget ftp" will show you lot of discussion about it

If you need to upload files to your server and don't need/want to set up ftp daemon, you can always use SFTP. It's secure, fast, "lightweight" way to put your files on a remote *nix machine.
