    32GB Server

I have a 16Gb server 4x4, If I need to upgrade to 32GB would I need 4x8 or just add another 4 sticks to 4x4?

Your server's motherboard probably only has 4 DIMM slots.

Which CPU, which motherboard? As Chris said the mobo is probably only 4 or 6 dimm capable.

4 dimm slots. 4x 8GB ECC unbuffered needed.

You have to use 4x8GB for this board.

Is this server leased or owned? If leased, your provider should be able to just make the swap for you. If owned, you made a bad initial investment getting 4gb sticks when you should have got 2 x 8gb sticks and just added 2 more when needed.
