Question about e-commerce websites resource usage

How much disk space and bandwidth does an average or high traffic e-commerce website usually use?

Are they very resource intensive?I mean how many of these websites can be hosted on a quad core(with HT),16GB ram server?

That depend on a number of factors...

1) type of cart
2) how many products (or should I say images and image size)
3) how many visitors
4) additional modules on the cart

So pretty hard to pin it down to how many you can host.

Well I offer ecommerce solutions and ecommerce hosting, so far the only people that have taken out ecommerce hosting from me is clinets that have already ordered ecommerce solutions. But I stick to one cart and don't advertise a lot.

I think if you can show the advantages of ecommerce hosting then it can be a good neiche market to aim for, but you would need to advertise a lot. Also if you can provide basic assistance with clients carts then that would be a plus point.
