Which Windows FTP Server?
For a web host provider offering FTP services on multiple domains, is the Windows 2008 Server built in FTP server adequate? Does it have advanced features as commercial grade FTP servers? Or is it better to go with a commercial product? If so, which ones?
Thanks!

MS FTP is fine, but can act funky at times. Try either FileZilla Server or GeneFTP.

If you want a free one with less features, FileZilla. If you want the paid decent stuff, Gene6.

Gene6 definitely seems like the one I want to go with.

I find FileZilla to be great for your basic or advanced FTP server. Never tried Gene6, but then I've never paid for FTP server software and couldn't imagine based on the options in FileZilla how anything could be that much better that you'd pay $60 for a single domain use and $140 for unlimited domain use. I always hated the windows FTP server simply because it's not that easy to configure. So my recommendation is FileZilla. The client version rocks for FTP use as well, tho FTP is FTP so use any client you wish.

+1 Filezilla, dumped MS FTP because of 'passive' issues

My vote also goes for filezilla. I've not been on Windows for a while now, but FZ has clients for almost every platform and performs pretty well IMO

I wonder if FileZilla can run scripts as a result of a file upload/download activity, such as running a .NET DLL to do something. If I recall correctly, Gene6 can do this.
